Tried the above but made no difference to the print which is black and white

It still has a magenta cast on it even though i have set the printer to black only?

I am using original cartridges, the colour photos are also not as good as i get from my old Epson 890.

I am also using Epson Paper

    Thanks

It sounds as though you have a break in the carriage ribbon cable. A new carriage would hopefully cure it but its just possible the logic board has failed and is not sending any signal to the magenta ink tank. Its certainly repairable but you would need to know the costs and the labour charge to see if its worthwhile.

Pixma iP1500:new ink cartridges fitted but no Magenta

Take a look at the mounting point. They break very easily on this model. If not broke, try cleaning with a swab and inserting the cart again.
