Question about Whirlpool Calypso GVW9959K Top Load Washer

7 Answers

Whirlpool calypso I have replaced the circuit boards and the level (water) sensor and it still won't work. If I push the stop/cancel button, the timer displays 7min and the extend spin and cycle signal (softer) lights come on. It also sounds a beep tone, but not in a regular pattern. What should be done next? Target practice? Thank you gain for your time. Mark I have the exact same problem

Water level controls - The water level control is also know as a pressure switch, this is where you set the water level ( small - medium - large ). The water level control is responsible to shut off the power to the fill valve and direct that power to the timer so the washing machine can start up. The WLC has electrical contacts in it that sends power to the fill valve and when the WLC is satisfied the water level is correct the electrical contacts open power to the fill valve and send the power to the timer and the washer starts. Picture of this here. How the water level control knows when it is time to shut the water off is, a air tight hose runs from the outer washer tank to the water level control. As the water fills the outer tank air is pushed up the hose, depending on which setting you have made ( small- medium - large ) is takes a certain amount of this pressure to make the WLC cycle over and shut off the water and send this power to the timer. If this hose develops a leak or a pin hole the washer can over fill as the WLC may not be able to shut the water off. The water level control can also break down and allow the washer to over fill as If you have a loose hose on the water level control or tank end, use a plastic wire tie to help hold the hose tighter and make a tight fit.
~ The water level tube (tube that runs from the square box), access panel on the outer drum where the bleach tube also ends) from the pressure sensor switch (front panel) can become clogged. Or the two holes from the outer tub into this square box panel on the outside of the outer tub can become clogged. Either clog, I am told by my help repair guy can cause the sensor to think that there is still too much water in the tub and so will not allow motor to activate spin.
~ If the water level control contact is bad, it may also stop the filling ok, but not tell the washer to start agitating.
well.

Id have to agree, that sounds as if theres an issue with the keypad, always wanting to restart a spin only cycle, replacing te console/ keypad, would be your fix, id agree with the target practice as well though, it is a nightmare machine..one im sure whirlpool wishes it never had produced

It was not the timer, before replacing the control assembly you should have checked all possible faults.

Stuck on 7 mins means that it is stuck on rinse, sometimes it does not drain read here :

Washer stuck on 7 min - FixYa
or
Stuck at 7 mins left

Test the drain pump and the inlet valve by ebnergizing them, see if there are objects stuck in the pump.
Check if the drain hose is obstructed.

Thanks.

Hi, i think you could have the touch pad problem. that is always an issue with the calypso. it would be just very hard to test all buttons if they are opening up. normally the problem is a stuck button.

kindly check all buttons if they are not sticking.

    OPTION DESCRIPTIONS
    Soil Level
Soil Level adjusts the amount of nutation or spray wash time in the selected cycle. It is valid for all
cycles except Extend Spin and Rinse & Spin stand-alone cycles. Soil Level changes the 7-segment
display in 1-minute increments, looping back to the minimum time once the maximum time has been
reached. The following table shows the time display in the 7-segment display for a given cycle and soil
level. These are total estimated times for the entire cycle.

    End of Cycle Signal
There are three (3) volume levels for the End of Cycle Signal, HIGH, LOW and OFF. Pressing the END
OF CYCLE SIGNAL keypad toggles between these options by lighting one of the LEDs and beeping the
corresponding end of cycle signal at the volume level selected. The LED remains lit during program
mode and running mode until the cycle is complete.
If OFF is selected, no end of cycle signal will beep, but all key and warning beeps are active.
The end of cycle signal is set at a short high pitched, followed by a longer lower pitched tone, repeated
    four times.

This possibly a bad contact on the panel board, thats why the system malfunction by itself. better to check on the every switch contact and clean for any moisture on the board.

Calypso will not advance past wash cycle. I have a Calypso GVW9959K washer that displays no error codes and will run all functions in test mode. Problem is - it will run forever in the wash mode (clock...

If the machine is filling and washing but not advancing then the timer mechanism is not fuctioning. There is no codes so all other parts must be working, likke the pressure switch. You might test the door or lid switch this can sometimes hang these up. to test simply jump across the switch with a jumper wire. Basically
  • If the washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer does not advance, the timer probably needs to be replaced
  • If the timer does not advance while the washer is in a spin cycle, the timer probably needs to be replaced
  • I am supplying the service manual for this machine. Please be careful when attempting any repair and always make sure the machine is unplugged before starting any repair. This manual include service guides for testing components as well if your capable of these tests. The link will lead you to the manual. These manuals are not easy to come by due to the fact they are meant for service personell who make a living on these so it is inclusive and should help you in you issue.

Won't fillCalypso whirlpool washer model#GVW9959KQ1 LD on display

LD is long drain error, the machine does not fill because it is in fault mode, but error is on drain system.

If there is a drain problem, the parts that must be checked are drain hose, pressure switch, drain pump assembly, timer control.

Check if the drain hose at the back is kinked or blocked.

Test the pressure switch, blow into the small hose, and use a multimeter to check if switch has continuity.

Remove access panel and get to the drain pump hose to check for ablockage. You will need to disconnect the hose and collect the water.

Keep a container ready to collect water when you undo pump hose.

Ifall the rest is OK, test and eventually replace timer board.Problemwith water pump are far more commonly causing this problemsthenfaulty timer board.

Kenmore elite calypso doesn't respond to buttons except cancel

I've had a similiar problem on my calypso. In my case the key pad would go dead after washing or pushing stop after a few minutes. If I unpluged the unit for a few minutes it would work again. This would appear to be in the controller board. I removed the board and inspected it finding no problems. After re-installing the board the washer appears to be working again. My conclusion is that there is a loose connector/connection. I'd suggest you remove and re-install all the connectors on the controller board. This is the board closest to the power chord.

    Lights,tries to run

Sounds like you have a bad control board but could also be a pressure switch problem. You would have to have a technician check it out. The calypso machines were discontinued after a class action law suit. They have multiple issues and are not worth repairing. Save your money and buy a new machine.

LTE6234 Whirlpool Twin Thin Timer Broken?

Check for voltage at the water inlet valve with the timer dial pushed in or in an off position. If no voltage replace the water valve. If you do have voltage you'll have to trace the circuits back from the water valve to the line. One point of demarcation is the water level switch. Pull the violet colored wire and see if it still fills while off. If it does it's likely the timer's bad.

Whirlpool Calypso - Will not start

You ever hear of dog years? Well Calypso follows those same guidelines. So your machine is 35 years old. These are the Edsel's of washing machine fame. I had a Calypso for 6 1/2 years. 3 pumps, numerous circuit boards, drive motors, phone calls and arguements with Whirlpool, along with machine downtime. I finally junked it and bought a Whirlpool Duet 9200 HT (get the made in Germany machine). A world of difference in wash quality. Fresh smelling unballed clean clothes. The Calypso was removed from the market and the subject of a class action lawsuit. Just Google it and start reading. Get comfortable first. There's a lot to read.

    Trouble starting Cycles

Jonsey, sounds like you have a keypad issue here. Do this test: press the following keys in this order soak-cycle signal-soak-cycle signal. If done right the display should show dt. Now press start, all the led's will light up. Now test them by pressing each one, you should hear a beep for each one. If some of them are not responding, check the P-11 and P-12 harness on the control board. You can also put this machine in the automatic test mode by pressing the keypads in this order; soak-soil level-soak-soil level. The display will start counting down from 99 to 0 testing different aspects of the machine. Any errors will be shown in the display. Catriver..post back.
