Forgot harddrive password, need to override hard drive password.

You can't unless you lose all your data, that's how (Maxtor system) was introduced into Seagate . ;) unless they created some Keyfile method which I do not recall having on my harddrives :)

Right click "My Computer" and select Manage. In the window, select Disk Management on the left column. If the drive is not listed on the right column, then the BIOS has not detected the harddrive - it might have a harddrive password lock. You will need to go into the BIOS and unlock it with the password.

There is no way to reset a hard disk drive password. If you forgot the password, you need to replace the harddrive with a new one.
If the laptop had this from the beginning, you may have acquired a stolen one.

Hard drive passwords are embedded in the firmware of the drive itself. You need to try to find out what the password was.

There should be an image of way your notebook came out of the box on the hard drive. Even though you have a password protected you should still be able to do a restore. When you restart the notebook hold down either the F8 key or F10 key and see if it runs the restore wizard for your notebook.
