Parasound HCA-1000A 2-Channel Amplifier

Help! Problem with Parasound amp

By lawyer - usenet poster

I've had a Parasound HCA-1000A 2 channel 125 watt amp for over a year now and
I noticed tonight, while playing my Blade DVD, that the "current overload" L&R
LED's are slightly lighting up. I wouldn't be able to notice it unless I
dimmed my lights in my room.
I have the amp hooked into my Onkyo receiver to power my two left and right
Paradigm speakers. All my speakers are calibrated to 75DB (via video
essentials test tone) using a Radio Shack meter. I do not exceed "normal"
volume levels when playing movies.  I just tried my Fifth Element DVD and a
DTS CD and the same thing happens when I put my receivers volume at around
-15.

According to the manual it says if these LED's are lighting up, that my
speakers impedance is too low, resulting in too much current draw from the
amps power supply. My receiver works fine with my L&R speakers plugged
directly into it.

Do I have a defective amp here?

Thanks,

Jeff

Is the light showing from the other two LEDs?  Maybe the LED is slightly
loose and the light from the other two can be seen from the overload light.

Just I thought but my 1000A doesn't do that.

Well I just got a helpful email from someone who has the same amp and the same
problem.  He called Parasound and they told him it could be a problem with the
grounding plate.  Anyway, he's ignoring it and I think I probably will as
well...For now anyway.

Could be a problem with the amp.  I had an HCA-1000 running a pair of 4
ohm low effiency Maggies with no problems ever.

Sounds like.

Growing reports of parasound reliability problems have been noted here
before.
