1 Answer

Receiver I read that people like myself have problems that their remotes dont work at a distance like they used to have and you have to get very close to the garage door for the remote to work. I read that the answers they give is interference, what about the receiver isnt that the likely problem to why people cant open the door from a distance????

COULD BE A WEAK REMOTE BATTERY A BAD REMOTE OR A BAD RECEIVER.
YOU CAN BUY AN EXTERNAL UNIVERSAL RECEIVER. THAT CAN BE MOUNTED CLOSER TO THE DOOR AND IS CHEAPER THAN REPLACING THE CIRCUIT BOARD.
BUT REMEMBER, I HAVE SEEN A RV POWER INVERTER PARKED NEXT TO THE GARAGE STOP A NEW OPENER FROM WORKING AT A DISTANCE OF 5 FEET.
SO I ALWAYS SUGGEST TURNING OFF POWER TO EVERYTHING YOU CAN JUST AS A TEST.
HOPE THIS HELPS

Door want close with remote have to hold switch on wall to close it.

Either the battery is dead, the code sent by remote is incorrect, the remote is broken, or the receiver is inoperative.

You did not mention in your question if the remote worked before? Just in case; Test the battery or replace with known good battery.
Check the code at base and remote.

I am going to guess that the remote did work before so now we have to test the output of the remote. If so then you would need some special equipment. It would be cheaper to either find a remote that you can use to test if the door opens with the new or test remote.

If the door opens with second or test remote you now know to buy a remote. If it does not then it is time to get someone who can check the receiver in the motor.

How do I increase the range for the remote. Used to be ok but now only works through the garage window. Have tried replacing the batteries

There could be several causes for your issues.
If you have a FIOS box in the garage make sure that it is closed and sealed.
Make sure that there is on coax cable close to the garage door opener motor in the attic.
Could be a neighbor installed something that is causing you to loose distance.

Garage door will not close when using the remote or garage door button. it will open, however. it can be forced closed by holding the garage door down. i have had this problem before . i have...

Check to see if your child/animal security beam is working correctly. It is an "Electric Eye" mounted about 12 in off of the floor on two mounting points and one side shoots an infra red beam across to a receiver. These points must be reasonably aligned to flash a beam (cannot see) from one point to another. This beam keeps the door open if it is interrupted . If it is not aligned, then the door opener sees a problem and will not close the door electrically. You must aligned the beam by bending the transmitter or receiver untill you can close the door by the remote. Also check to see if something placed in the garage is not blocking the beam first.

Outside keypad will not open or close door, but the control inside works. put new battery in no help

The wall control is hard wired to the opener and doesn't use the receiver. The keypad does use the receiver. If you have hand remotes that work then it is your keypad that has quit working. Without remotes you cannot know if it is the keypad or the receiver.

Garage Master 1/3 HP 1997 Door Working, not responding to Remote

I have the exact same situation, except my model (139.53607) is older than yours and does not even have an LED. Remotes only works after after shop light goes off (5 minutes or so), but wall button works fine. Did call Sears Service and the tech told me the logic board is probably shot. Don't want to waste money on service call so I'll probably have to buy a completely new unit in the Spring and go through the winter without the use of a remote.

Door Remote

check to see if anything is blocking the beam that tells it something is in the way of the door closing. If there is nothing crossing the beam, make sure the beams are lined up properly. The four blinks are a safety feature so that you do not close the door on anyone or anything. Had the same problem myself once.
