What breaker? The GFI on the wall plug?
If so,liquid may have entered the device and tripped the gfi breaker at the wall plug OR the main panel that provides power to that wall plug.

if your GFI trips soon after the spa goes through the purge cycle then you need a new heater.
Yes the heater can develop a dead short and it causes the GFI to trip when power is sent to the heater.

The problem believe it or not your gfi is warn out. I am actually surprised it lasted as long as it has and surprised it worked at all. Espresso machines use a huge amount of power when turning on compared to maintaining power. When espresso machines first turn on the take a huge surge of power to start heating up the elements. Normally you want to put an espresso on a circuit /outlet that is directly to your breaker that is at least a 20 amp breaker. By code kitchens and bathrooms, where an outlet is near water, has to have a gfi outlet, this is for safety for something plugged in near water so it will trip if accident happens with appliance near water. The bad news there not to good with high demand power appliances such as espresso machines. Yes , you can replace the gfi circuit, by turning off main breaker, unscrew gfi from wall, pull out, and undo wires, and copy exactly when re-wiring the new one. Then turn on main breaker again. NOTE: you can buy a gfi all most any home improvement center, lowers, home depot, ace hardware etc.... Think of a gfi kind of like a advanced in line fuse, they do wear out. BUT AGAIN, my advice is plug it in a outlet that does not have gfi and is on a main breaker of at least 20 amps if you have that opportunity to do in your kitchen area. Hope this helps you, thank you....... MIKE

As soon as i switch on the power the power is tripped

What exactly is tripping out? Most kitchens now have GFI recepticals. There is a small red button that pops out if the circuit detects moisture inside the electrical parts of the coffee maker. If that is tripping you may be able to simply dry out the coffee maker by turning it upside down and then blowing the switch and electronic controls with a hair dryer for a few minutes. Try the coffee maker is a receptical in the bedroom. If it doesn't trip there it is probably moisture caused by spilling a little water on the machine when you were filling it. If it trips the bedroom breaker, it is most likely a dead short in the machine. Normally it is not worth the labor and parts to repair this machine.

GFI protected? you have a leak somewhere ... Not GFI protected, you have a short. Is this 110 or 220Volts?

Breaker kicks off as soon as switch is turned on

the gfci is defective from moisture even after they dry they can be defective, access the cord inside the machine and try a different cord and see if this is your problem, otherwise the pump motor could be bad,the bypass valve on the pump could be bad,if you could run it you could check current draw with an amprobe, but not if it wont start

As soon as the thermostat is turned up powering the heating element the GFI circuit breaker trips. What could be shorting out?

Hi,
Probably nothing... but the gfi breaker reads the load through the elements as a short. For me there should never be a gfi breaker on a resistance load. The load is doing exactly what the breaker is designed to prevent. Replace the breaker with a regular one and you will be fine....
If you want and you have an ohm meter, check out the resistance across the two hot wires first. If youare shorted anywhere you will get 0, if not you will get and ohm reading...showing that you are not shorted but you have a resistance across the lines.

Refrigerators should never be plugged into a GFI due to the start up amps that it draws on start up. With other items on the same circuit it is too much of a load. Refrigerator need to be on there own individual circuit to keep this from happening and not a GFI. Hope this helped.
