Are you downloading a new version? If so, when the download window comes up, select "Save" instead of "Open". When the Save window opens up, save it to your desktop or other location that you can locate it when it has completed downloading. After the download, find the file and run it.

BTW, if you are installing a new version, make sure you uninstall the old Norton before installing the new. This is best accomplished by running the Norton Removal Tool located at:

Try uninstall norton antivirus and load avira antivirus, run word program and check whether an error will come out. If no error, your antivirus might be corrupted and somehow affects your application. If error still occurs after replacing norton, uninstall office program and reinstall again.

Norton wont remove from my pc

This problem is so common that Symantec has developed the Norton Removal Tool, available here:)

http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

That is assuming you can get to a Windows desktop and the 'black screen' you mention does not come during the startup...

Since you do not seem intent on reinstalling, do not worry about saving the license key. There are plenty of good freeware programs for antivirus. At a minimum your should have Windows Defender and AVG Free Edition.

If you have SP2 or SP3, install Windows Defender from Microsoft first. It is self explanatory, free and available here:)

Note you must be running a legal copy of Windows XP for this to install.

The other antivirus I would suggest is AVG Free Edition, which is available from here:)

Please post comments on your progress and results.

"C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\Engine\16.1.0.33\uiStub.exe" will not open or run. Was working approx 5 days ago

It looks like Norton may have some security issues with Vista, where it tries to run files with insufficient security.

Try finding that file in your Windows Explorer window, right-click on it, run as Administrator.

If that works, and you trust Norton's products, right-click on the file again, Properties, Compatibility, Run as Administrator. That may cure the problem.

If I were you, I'd also find the Live Update executable/program, right click on that, run as administrator.

Message says my subscription has expired? I purchased Internet Security from Nortons on 12/7/07 why has it expired? It appars I am no longer protected and do not understand why this is.

Most of the Norton antivirus comes with one year subscription. date u mentioned here seems like more then 1 year old. That's why it says expired
If you dont want to spend any more money on antivirus then uninstall this one and download AVG from this site. this is really good antivirus for free and good for ever.

norton does not automatically renew, unless you pay, then you can update the version, either a spam e mail or pop up, only renew it when the official norton pop up tells you

My Norton Internet Anti Virus is all haywire, what is happening? Somewhere I saw that my Anti Virus Protection has expired. IMy email address is priscillay16@yahoo. com

.well if it has expired then you have to renew it. Yearly! It's best to by the software yourself once and for all.
Norton is a very big program taking a lot of system resources. I've had many complaints on it and removing it manually is a real mission. It takes control of the computer. But if you are happy with it and it works for you go with it and try to buy the actual program CD.
Also keep in mind you can't have more than one antivirus at the same time, without causing a conflict sooner or later.
