Question about Sony VPL-VW100 (Ruby) Multimedia Projector

Sometimes it will not come on...

If it comes on its a great projector. lately it does not always come on. I press "on" a 100 times it does not come on. Then the next day it comes on and plays like nothing happened. I have made sure the cover is on, the filter screen is clean - no change. When it does not come on it clicks 4 times - when it does work it clicks (different sound) once and there it is. Sounds like there is a relay that does not always make contact. help. I just know that if I turn it in someplace that it will work always until I take it home. Help Help

Can I have a second opinion
If it does come on it will work great all day long. Would that be the case if a Capacitor is bad?

Contact your local Sony service and ask them to install a "hard start kit mod" in your Ruby. That solves the starting up problems! This usually goes under warranty.

There is a protection circut that detects when there is a voltage change , and if it is not correct then the relay will not stay on or it may take a long time for the protection circut to get the power correctly
this could be the cause of a bad power transformer( wires not creating a good magnetic field) or the protection circut is not working correctly anymore
it will need to be taken to an electronic repair shop to determine the exact cause of the power not engaging and working correctly

Its the problem in the board mostly  .check out any bulged up capacitors or any capacitor loose on the main board which is not letting the projector to get ON.it could also be the switch which you r pressing on the projector to make it on as sometimes its getting pressed properly and other times it is missing the contact on the main board.just on the main board check out this back of the switch if the button is loose on the circuit board that might be the problem.just resolder that button and then check it should work.
thanks.

I have the service and training manuals for this model and have worked on a few. Are you getting any flashing LED lights when the set does not power on correctly?

    Also,
Pleases try removing the power and waiting about 3 or 4 minutes and then plugging it back in and telling me how many relay clicks you here as that is important. Please disregard some of the solutions posted here, I am a Sony trained technician and will do my vest to assist you in narrowing down the problem.

Depending on the number of clicks you hear when you first apply power, it could be one of 4 different boards. Can you take voltage measurements?

Hey,

this is most likely a problem in the power adapter or power board. Best solution is to get it looked at by a professional, if you are going to look at it yourself, look for bulky and or broken capasitors.

here are some clearly faulty capasitors, leaked

PLV-Z2 Won't come on.

Hi There,
Yup you definatly have a temp sensor issue. But dont worry, Its not a major issue. Ive had a plv-z3, and a plc-sw35,And both projectors gave me a temp sensor issue at one time or another. Its just a sanyo thing...
Heres what happend.. The ambient temp inside the projector shouldnt reach more than 100 degrees celcius, when it does the temp sensor (which looks like a small black pot, with a shaft, and a ceramic white tip) Opens up, and cuts off the high voltage supply to the projector, A fail safe to prevent any major damage. What essentially should happen is, that once the projector has cooled, the temp sensor should return to normal possition, and allow normal operation... BUT... sometimes it doesnt. And until you manually push the shft back down, You projector wont work again.
What you need to do, Is take off the top cover, Locate the sensor (its normally mounted next to, or on the lamp housing) And push on the white tip with a pen or small screwdriver to close the circut again.
Here it a full service manual for a plv-z3, which is almost identical to your unit.http://yama.co.za/forum/index.php?topic=147.0

Hope Ive helped in some way. :)
good luck

My projector suddenly stopped working

The instruction manual says that to reset the timer you have to hold down (simultaneously) the Menu button, then Enter button and the Down arrow...then press the Standby/On button on the projector. This worked the first time I replaced the bulb, but now that I've had to replace it again, its not working. Good Luck.

Won't power off when pressing power button, just goes to standby mode

With most projectors you have to press the power button twice to confirm that you want to turn it off. When you press it the first time it waits for a bit and then turns itself back on assuming you hit the power button on accident.
