Top screen goes opaque white, but looks fine with pressed L button.
Hello, I have a problem with my NDS lite where the
top screen (only the top screen, the bottom is fine) goes semi-opaque white.
When holding down the L button the screen looks normal. I was wondering if anyone
knew specifically what the problem is, so that I can order the right parts &
try to fix it.
L Button pressed.
Thank you very much!

You have a defective flatcable of the upper screen, or the calble is not correct seated in the connector on the systemboard. The upper screen connector is on the bottom side of the Left button-switch.
If the flatcable is defective (most likely because of the open-close actions every time the DS Lite is used) you have to replace the complete upper screen (the cable cannot be removed without replacing the whole screen).
First try to reseat the flatcable in the connector. If that is not working, replace the screen (manuals how to open the DS Lite etc etc can be found on the Internet)

most likely its the top screen ribbon.Because when you open the ds all the way it might push the ribbon in just enough to be read but when not open it cant read the top screen and it will shut down.I have instructions on how to change a top screen you can use them to put the ribbon back in. the only difference is you don't need to unplug the white and black wires.First you need a tri wing screwdriver and a cross screwdriver. You can
get both on ebay. Then their are seven screws four tri wing and three
cross. You will need to pry the back off be very careful.Start on the
side that doesn't have the on off switch and work your way around.Once
you have the back off unscrew the two cross screws that hold the logic
board on.Then unplug the white and black wifi
and mic wires they snap on and off. Then flip the logic board over by
pushing the bottom screen out.On the other side is where the ribbon for
the top screen is.To get the hinge apart their are two more cross
screws in the top left corner take them out that releases the
hinge.very carefully roll the ribbon so you can get it through the
metal ring and the wires pull the wires first.to get the top apart the
four cross screws are above and below the speakers
under those small squares.A needle will get them out easily .Once you
get the screws out then slid the back of the top up 1/8 of an inch then
pull the back off carefully. You need to push the screen out and
unsolder the speaker wires or use new ones.Make sure when putting it
back together you roll the new ribbon the right way look at the old one
to find out .Getting the old ribbon out and the new one in is a little
difficult so take it all apart first and get the wires out then the
ribbon and put the ribbon in first.
i think you have answered that question yourself but what i would do, find a game repaireshop near by, and they will repair anything to do with game consoles, it should cost too much either, so its either them or the trash or try your pot look, learn a bit more and you might probably be able to fix it yourself, dont give up just yet, believe in yourself and concentrate
I hear about the ribbon cable not being inserted wel. Lots of people had it put in place, looking ok but no action from the ds. I suggest to reinsert the ribon cables, i heard its quite tricky with the ds...
If yours is the NDS Lite, just find this video in youtube: "Disassembling Nintendo DS Lite"
after opening it you can do your work. Make sure the flexible cables connecting the top screen part of your DS are well in place and not broken. Your problem may be only a loosen cable but in case the cable is broken you gonna need a replacement. Be careful not to damage the screen or other sensitive
electronic parts on your device and you will be on your way.
