Question about Canopus TwinPact 100 (77010136100) Video Capture

1 Answer

I have a twin pact 100 connected via RGB to mobile ultrasound unit.

The problem that i am experiencing is a loss of the ultrasound image and color splashes on my monitor.(projector monitor, not on ultrasound screen) The led light appears red for a brief moment when i turn the twin pact on.
Please let me know if i need servicing on the twin pact or something i can address myself. It is not the RGB connection, as i have replaced that.
Thanks
Janis

Please check the videosettings on the ultrasound scanner.
(Videosettings)
Maybe this is for your purposes not correctly setup.
Think of : video interlacing, Frame/Filed, NTSC/PAL.

Ofcourse the same thing counts for the Twin Pact !

Question: what type is the Ultrasound Unit ?
Brand/Model ?

Make sure that you have the little switch on the back of the Grandtec thingy to CVBS, not RGB or YCbCr - it's a three way switch - I didnt spot that at first...

I don't think the DVD recording system is the main problem. It receives data or an image from your ultrasound machine and then records it. If you're getting the recording writen to DVD then it's doing it's job. It is more likely that you need a computer with a better video card that can receive better video and play better video resolution. I'm guessing here but some of the better gaming video cards should be able to do that but need to know what kind of computer you have as to what kind of video cards you can use.

I am sorry to ask you another question, but in order to give you the appropriate answer, I have to know your exact needs.

You want to record the images and cine loops and currently use a video/frame grabber to capture these signals into a computer.
If you are a specialized Ultrasound doctor, why don't you use the DICOM standard for storage and archiving? There are great free software packages out there you can use for this! It will give you the best medical solution for this purpose and if you need after exam measurements etc, all the image display information (pixel info etc.) is already available in the DICOM information. Any DVD recording will give you a limitation in these functionalities.

If you want to proceed with DVD recordings, please be aware that the average Ultrasound pixel resolution is 512 x 512. Besides this, Ultrasound is always noisy and kind of "blocky"..The DVD will never increase this quality and can only downgrade it if incorrectly setup.

If you need more help or information about DICOM use, please let me know and no, I will be obliged to provide you with more information about this great standard.

My Magnavox tb110mw9a converter loses programming randomly.

Badge #7067 is giving you a load of bunk. I have had one for 8 months and the only time I have reprogrammed it was when all TV was to go digital. Even when our power goes out the converter remains programmed.

I would keep calling back. Chances of getting the same guy is slim. Insist on a replacement.

Hi! You must use a firewire in order to receive power - if you're going to use composite cables (red, white, yellow) you will have to purchase an AC adapter.

Video output from VHS recorder

does your television have multiple scart connectors? Sometimes some models have only 1 connector that will accept RGB signals... Another thing you can check are VCR settings - scart component video output is not "official" and hence you might need to look at some of the setting if you need to enable it. Another possibility is that your scart cable may not have your rgb signals connected (based on wikipedia reference: "not all SCART cables make use of all the pins, often leaving out RGB signals. In many cases there is also no way to see which type of signal that is currently displayed on the TV set."

I'm guessing that you have it connected via a 6pin firewire on the ADVC100 to a 4pin firewire on your macpro. The device needs to be connected via 6pin to 6pin in order for the device to get power, otherwise you'll have to buy a AC adapter (which is not included). Otherwise it's a great device for DV conversion on multiple platforms!
