Question about Sony KP-57WS500 57" Rear Projection Television

6 red blinking codes

I had a problem with the convergance so I just ended up changing out the d-board and the audion board. They was used boards but I was told that they worked. Put the two boads in I ended up having a 5 red blinking code error. Found out that I could have a bad crt drive on the A board. So I put in a used A board from the same tv that I got the other two boards from. Now I am getting a 6 red light blinking code. So what does the 6 blink mean and can I fix it. I don't get the 5 red lights anymore after I changed out the A board. And hear is another problem that I have. After the convergance went out I still had a pic and sound but sound was static. Now after changing out all three boards(happened after I put in the d and g board) I have no power to the light guns and no sound. I do hear the double click though coming from the A board. But nothing else. Can anyone help? Is it worth even trying to fix it anymore. KP57-WS500 Sept 2002 model.

So since I do not get the five flashes anymore, do you think the changing of the A board helped that? Also how do I correct the 6 flashes? I have found a possible fix is to change the thermal fuse. Does that sound like an answer? And if so were do I find it?

The ic's went out on the D board. So instead of paying alot of money for a tec to fix it, i found someone who had a tv just like mine. He said the only thing that was wrong with his, is his blue light gun was going bad.(he had a tec look at it) So my D board finally fried. I put in his D board and audio board. Cause when my D board fried I think that it might have taken my audio board with it. Cause all I had for sound was static after it blew. Still had a pic but it looked like the middle of my tv was suken in. So after I put in the D board and audio board I started getting 5 red blinks and no pic and no sound of any sort. Found out I could have blown something on the A board so I got his A board. Put it in, now I get 6 red blinks but still no sound and no pic. Before I purchased the boards, the seller told me up until the time he parted the tv out it worked. So I am not sure what has gone wrong.

The tv vision is red, green, yellow, orange, very very blurry, and it is not possible to watch the television. How could I fix it?

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

I have a sony projection tv and the red is coming out of line where it makes you see double like a red rainbow effect shadow. I tried the flash focus and the problem still persists any ideas on where to go...

When you first turn it on,Count the flashes on the standby/power button.

Continuous blink once a second, no pausing - No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground,or held high), IK video path is defective.

Two blinks - B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.

Three blinks - B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This isalso a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672.

Four blinks - No vertical Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal muted.Check IC1509, Q1505

Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on
the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.

Six blinks - No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.

Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits
Eight blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some projection models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 (flyback
transformer), or the associative components in the high voltage circuits are defective on the D board.

Nine blinks - Replace D 6116 and D 6301 on the "G" board, do not resolder as this will fix the problem temporary. Or Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times
you get flashing, then change the switching regulator on the "G" board or check connections. Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive).

Ten blinks - Check Q8014 and Q8013 for shorts, leakage, or bad solder connections on the " D" board. If the transistors
are bad, check R8051 and IC8005, also on the "D" board

If the convergence Ics and resistors are good its most likely related to the velocity boards that are attached to the Red CRT convergence yoke. Its the small board about half way up the neck of the CRT. If you need one let me know as I have a source for JVC boards for that model.

Rca d52w19 convergence hell

Did you replace the convergence board or the convergence power supply board? usually one color will be a problem with the convergence board and more than one color means the convergence power supply is the problem. Ebay isnt a good place for boards as you never know if the board is good. You can get the convergence or the convergence power supply boards at the following link along with free shipping and tech support.
