Question about Braun Cruzer 3 Electric Shaver

8 Answers

Problem shaving My braun Cruzer3 pulls on my stubble when I try using the trimmer. It used to do a top job but, suddenly it's begun pulling at my beard - and it's pretty sore. I wanted the thing mainly as a trimmer and now I can't use it! I have no idea what to do as I've lost the instruction manual. What do I need to do please?

Im having exactly the same problem - great at trmming beard i.e.leaving short stubble when 1st used. Now 6 months on, it doesnt trim but just pulls and catches. I agree - looks like the 2nd set of blades arent moving far enough.

Just been on the braun website - u can download the manual - but no help !! Fortunately - kept my receipt - so its going back tommorow!!

If i have lost the receipt and it is still under the guarantee is there any way I can claim, because this thing is ripping my hair out. UK

Have the same problem. Trimmer does not work

  • scarab77 May 20, 2009

My clipper part has NEVER worked and they refused to honor the warranty on it. I feel like I would have been better buying a used pair of rusty scissors from some guy in a back alley, at last they would actually cut something instead of yanking at my face.

People, never ever buy the Braun body cruzer!!!! It does not mather which version/type you buy, with 'all' versions the big trimmer fails to work after aprox, 18-24 months.

I have bought three version of them, the first one stopped working totally after about a year. With the second one the large trimmer blade did not work anymore, so I bought the newest cruzer version (shaver #3 by then) in the hope Braun would have solved this problem. But NO, the same thing happend. After 18 months the trimmer is broke and I can throw my shaver in the bin because you buy this thing for the trimmer.

Now about 3 years later I have in total bought 3 cruzer shavers from Braun and all are broke (i am also almost broke, those things are pretty expensive here). And of course Braun does not help, they just say you are beyond warranty or did not take good care of the product. But I did, I keeped it clean with the little brushes, I put oil on blades/parts, and when I had shaved in the shower I made dry.... so I wonder what Braun means with "taking good care for your product" but i think they mean something like: buy a new one and give us some more of your money.

I will NEVER buy a Braun product again! And be warned people, don't say you where not warned for this product when you buy one and is goes broke within a year.

Never washed mine and never oiled it, just blew and brushed the bristles away. The clipper stopped working well outside guarantee period (I only used it when I needed a trim for a meeting or a function!). So I stripped it down to see what the problem was. In my case - and I reckon it is a common cause of the problem - bristles had built up inside the bottom of the trimmer slider, so that the slide could not be slid fully into the trim position. Unfortunately in discovering the problem I broke the slider mounts, so no more Cruzer, but at least I know what the problem was. I don't believe washing or oiling would have avoided it and I think it shows a serious design fault.

The solution was very simple in my case (I had the same problem with trimmer pulling my facial hair). According to the manual you should oil up the trimmer cutters (as well as the foil) each week - if you wash the shaver in water.
I did just that - used a little oil (that came together with shaver) and it did the trick - the trimmer works now just how it used to.
I'm lucky it worked because it was the first time I ever oiled it since I bought the shaver ten months ago.

Hope that helps :-)

There have been dozens of posts on this with no solution. I guess we hav all been ripped off by braun, sorry to say.

I honestly think your best bet is to do the same as most of us and admit that this company sold you a piece of **** that doesn't do it's job, throw it out and buy something good. You are honeslty better buying a 'cheap' twenty or thirty dollar trimmer with no bells or whistles than trying to get the cruzer to do anything other than rip at your face, miss 80% of your beard and generally **** a hundred bucks off of you.

My solution? : Buit a 15 dollar conair kit, it actually trims. Aso, never by braun again.

Gentlemen, you put oil in your car right? Why wouldn't you lubricate the moving parts on this fine piece of machinery? Two things I love about the Cruzer3 are the trimmer attachment, and the fact that you can rinse it in water.
Well of course that will eventually remove any oil/grease/lubricant and slow down the parts.
A quick oiling, or a few sprays of WD40 and the fur will be flying again. Make sure you wash both razor and face well if using WD40 or you'll get a nasty rash.

    You´re right gdoerre...!
I just pick my Cruzer 3 up from the basement, where it has been for the last couple of years, thick with hair from my beard, i guess... Didn´t qualify for the 2 year warranty, so after reading your post I thought I´d give it a try oiling it up.
Started to dissemble it with the great tutorial someone posted in a similar thread, but it didn´t quite do it...
so I rinsed the trim-part(in trim mode) in hot water, flipped it around a few times,
then took some teflon-spray, used for oiling chains on bicycles etc and
pushed the blade left and right with my thumbnail to really get the oil in(pushed left and sprayed right and vice versa)
    then pushed it some more to the sides(to help it along the way);
    rinsed it again with water,
sprayed it a little more in the same procedure as before,
wiped off the oil that leaked out on the sides and
    hell yeah, it worked again!!
After all it´s a perfect-sized shaver that fits well in my hand, I Like it(no I don´t work at Braun...)
    Thanks man!

Same problem here, the trimmer stopped working. Has anybody tried replacing the shaver foil + cutter block? Braun sells replace parts for those, in fact they recommend replacing them after 18 months of use.

I too the thing apart and broke the casing! Couldn't really see much that could be done though. aye to the bin I think!

Hair trimmer vibrating too much

I also use Philips Norelco Trimmer doesn't vibrate. It's rechargeable so has a "rotary" motor instead of a "vibratory" mechanism. It does a great job on my beard, though I have not tried it for the hair on my head.
you must try it.

What is the best beard trimmer for styling and sensitive skin?

Yes, you are right! Now a days most of the people are using electric shaver because of its advantages like:
  1. It gives a fast shave.
  2. It is cheaper than manual shaving kits
  3. It gives a smooth shave and also there is no chance to get cut or skin irritation
If you are looking for beard trimmer than i will let know that trimmers are used to cleaning up the edges. I would recommend you to use clippers rather than using trimmers because clippers are used for doing the bulk of a haircut.

Should I stretch and relax my skin whilst shaving?

The best way to shave your beard is close, but not too close. Excessive pulling and stretching of the skin causes the hair to protrude a bit farther out than normal. Shaving over stretched skin may cut the hairs below the surface of resting skin, thus increasing the risk of ingrown hairs.

The trimmer on my Braun 1775 FreeControl shaver has stopped working. When it is engaged, the pitch (sound) of the shaver changes in the usual way with the usual increase in vibration. However the trimmer...

The trimmer is either broken or clogged up with a combination of shavings and skin oil. If it is broken, there are no replacements available. If it is clogged, you can fix it by thoroughly cleaning it. Dip the blades of the trimmer into some rubbing alcohol or other mild solvent type liquid. Soak it for about one minute. Then take an old toothbrush and firmly scrub the teeth. Then turn it on and it should free it up. If it still doesn't move you can advance the blade manually to get it 'unstuck'. One of the blades is fix and the other moves back and forth. You should be able to see which one is supposed to move by sight. Take a small flat screwdriver or similar object and push the blade to each side once. Turn it on and it should move freely. Dip the trimmer blades back in the rubbing alcohol while it is running and let it run for about 15 seconds.
If still not working it is beyond repair. The easiest and least expensive way to get working again would be to purchase a new ;lower unit' which includes the trimmer. You will find at shaveroutlet.com. See link below

I installed 3 new heads but the shaver just is not shaving off my 5 day old beard... It's battery seems fine as the motor seems to be running at normal speed. Confused Carl

Your Norelco shaver is not designed for cutting 5 days of growth. Your shaver is designed for cutting one, maybe two days of growth only. Use the trimmer on the back to cut the whiskers to a shorter stubble. Then the hairs will more effectively poke through the holes and slots in the combs allowing the blades to shave them as designed.

Bought a Braun series 3 razor (#340 wet and dry). It hardly shaves the whiskers but it really messes my skin up. ( I was using a Norelco which did a pretty good job) I think there is something wrong...

You should be able to run your finger over the foil mesh on the Braun shaver to feel if there are any rough spots causing the problem you describe. If there is damage you may also be able to see it.

It could also be that the Braun shaver simply does not agree with your skin type. There are many people who are sensitive to different kinds of shaving methods. Foil shavers like Braun may not be the type of shaver for you

Braun Pulsonic model 9595. Trimmer will not close properly. Can I repair this myself?

The trimmer is replaceable and can be purchased as an assembly http://buyitnow64.stores.yahoo.net/brshrese7pul.html You will T-6 and T-8 torx drivers to take apart the head end of the shaver. Using these tools, remove the swiveling head, the hold down cover over the motor assembly, and then pop off the drive arm for the trimmer. Now the broken trimmer assembly can be slid out of the end of the shaver by carefully prying between the case where the on/off button is located and the black trimmer assembly base with a small flat blade jeweler's screwdriver. The new trimmer assembly can then be slid into the case and the shaver reassembled. Just be sure the ends of the retraction spring on the new trimmer assembly are installed over the little chrome retaining lugs for them or your trimmer will not fully retract (my trimmer assembly arrived with the spring ends loose and not retained by the lugs).

Suddenly, the trimmer blade of my braun 8985 shaver has started literally plucking my hair..i don't know wht the problem is

If you've used the shaver for a very long time, it could be that the trimmer part has worn out. You can buy a replacement body for your 8985 that includes the trimmer, from shaveroutlet.com. Replacement is not very difficult (not soldering involved). You pull off the bottom plug socket, take off the sides, unscrew 4 torx screws on the body, and the shaver comes apart. Good luck!
