Question about Sentry Fireproof Safe

1 Answer

Mold The safe is three years old, we were notaware that the safe must be aired out like laundry once a week. Or else you will get MOLD, and all your important documents will be ruined. Now i have a fire safe that will keep my papers safe and dry in a fire, but they will surely stink!!

I also have a mold problem in my Sentry safe. First I noticed the musty smell, and when I looked through the stored documents, my passport was all curled up. What good is a safe that can protect against fire, but will ruin your most important documents by mold???
    Any solutions anyone?
What about those moisture absorbent packets? Anybody tried that?

Desiccant Moisture absorbing packs will help to absorb some of the excess humidity in the safe. In addition to the desiccant packs, you should open the safe at least once every two weeks for approximately 20 minutes. To alleviate some of the musty odor, we suggest that you remove the items from the safe and wipe the interior with a paste of baking soda and water. Do not store your safe unit in areas of your home or business with already high humidity levels such as a basement or cellar as this will add to the moisture problems. You can purchase desiccant packs from www.SentrySafeShop.com . The link for the desiccant packs is: http://www.sentrysafeshop.com/Moisture-Control-Desiccant-Packets-p/desiccant%20pack.htm

How do you open a sentry 1250 combination safe? I have the number

Locksmiths agree If your safe doesn't have a key, skip Step 3.
Turn the dial to zero.
Insert your sentry safe key and turn it until the plunger pops out.
Turn the dial to the left (counterclockwise) three times to the first number of the combination (pass the first number of your combination two times, stopping on it the third time).
Turn the dial to the right (clockwise) two times to the second number of the combination (pass your second number once, stopping on it the second time).
Turn the dial to the left to the last number (stop the first time on your last number).
Pull the handle down; cracking the Fireproof Sentry Safe open.

Mold in fire safes is common :(

Most likely, Due to possible dampness in your home collecting in the air tight small container would be the cause of mold. Or it could be humid in the safe that would result to mold because mold would grow in the small dark area. All you really have to do is clean the safe with lysol or some type of antibacteral cleaner..wouldent suggest water alone for obvous reason of it being the possible problem to start with.
Hope this helped.

Just opened safe and found some mold and dampness on some money i had put away i thought safe was aire tight and nothing would get in

Need more info, if safe is subject to cool and then hot you could be exposing it to condensation and moisture. If not then there is a product to dry it out. Buy a bucket of dessicant, or DRY RID and it will draw all of the moisture out of safe.

I can't seem to unlock my safe Sentry 1250.

Also make sure you are executing the combination in the right steps... For mine (a three-number combo), these are the steps that work:

* turn the knob to the LEFT, pass 0 at least THREE times and stop at the first combo number
* turn the knob to the RIGHT, pass 0 ONCE and stop at the second comb number
* turn the knob to the LEFT and go directly to the third combo number (do not pass 0, do not collect $200)
