You can do a full reformat right from the windows xp install disk.  Put the xp disk in the cdrom drive and restart the computer.  Upon restarting a message will come up ( Hit any key to boot from CD )  Hit any key,  the files will load then you will be able to format the hard drive and also load windows XP.
If for some reason your system doesnt boot from the cd, you might have to go into the Bios and change the boot order from the hard drive or the floppy to the cd so the computer will boot from the CD first. Hope this helps...                                                           Joe > Data Miner <

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

You need the bios/operating system disk to start, and then you would need a full version of windows to install.

Need to reformat my NTFS hard drive in my Toshiba L300. Have saved all data, just need to reformat, and CD ROM will not work for XP CD.

If you know what you're doing afterward, in order to format your hard drive simply click the start button, click run and type cmd and hit eneter. Then enter "format C: /fs:ntfs" without the quotation marks. Follow the prompts.

Hard drive full running xp ,drive is paritionedc,d

Hello,

To delete a partiition is quite easy in windows. but you will need a third party application like "partition magic" to merge two partitions together, this could be costly

The best advice I could give you is to back up all your information and reinstall your windows straight onto one partition. This will improve your overall speed and also probly also free more space by deleting unwanted programs, spam etc.

How do I wipe my hard drive? It has been hit by a virus and most of the programs no longer work. I need to clean the hard drive and reload it. Do I need to format it first?

Hello,

You can perform a clean install. When you are asked if you want to reformat , say YES. That way all will be erased, and the virus also.

Hoe it helps

Error message NTLDR missing on formatted hard drive

You need to either reinstall windows, or take the hard drive out, hook it up as a spare drive to a working computer and copy NTDLR to the root of the laptop hard drive. It would be much easier to reinstall windows. You can always use the recovery portion of Windows, but if I were you I would just do a format and reinstall. NTDLR is just a startup file for Windows XP, that does not mean your hard drive is gone or anything. Please don't forget to rate!..Thanks

Dell dimension e520 reinstalling the XP Media center

Hello,

connect your hard drive to other computer and then have it clean by scanning with antivirus. and then copy the important files on it to the working computer. after copying the files thats the time to return back the original hardrive to the dell dimension and then reformat and reinstall the system again again. please use original operating from dell or what ever is applicable.

Help...

dumping of of your hard drive is so expensive, you canstill use that what you need is to install anti viruses but if your operating system is alredy been affected you need to reformat this. in formatting you need to configure your bios by starting the 1st boot device must be the cd rom. your xpcd must be in the cd rom once restarted after the bios configuration in order to start your operation and to reformat your hard disk. just follow the instructions you'll see in your monitor you'll succeed in your reformatting this. if you have some queries feel free to e-mail me and i will guide you.
