Ugh, I'm about to give up and buy a cheap charcoal grill.. I have a Weber Genesis Silver grill and it doesn't get hot enough to cook.. I tried the valve thing, but its no better. I don't think thats the issue as it gets hotter than 250-300. After preheating for about 20-30 min with both burners on high it'll eventually get to about 400, maybe 450. When I first put the food down it'll cook ok, but the grill quickly cools off so the food needs lots and lots of time to cook.. I am unable to sear steaks while having the inside medium rare. I've used lots of grills in the past and never had this issue. Any suggestions??

I bet your grill gets no hotter than about 300 with the lid closed?

The tank has a built in safety feature. If a burner is left on when you open the valve on the tank, or turned on too soon immediately after opening the valve on the tank, the flow will be restricted. You need to turn all burners off, close the tank valve, disconnect the tank, reconnect the tank, open the tank valve, waqit a few seconds, open the burner valve and light. You'll get unrestricted flow and much better heat.

Try following these steps to reset your FLD (flow limiting device)http://www.edyoungs.com/edyoungs/troubleshoot_tank.htm and then carefully follow the lighting instructions. If it works for you I think you will find this is a GREAT grill! Happy grilling and eating!

Weber silver b. cooking grate has rusted. what is it made of. terrible!

Steel with either a black porcellian finish or a chrome finish. Depends on the model.

Stainless Steel or Cast Iron is my personal favorite. It wears extremely well and is easy to clean.

Do I need briquettes for my weber silver grill

No, you don't use briquettes with a charcoal grill. Charcoal is slow to heat up any way, adding lava rock (briquettes) would make it even slower and hard to keep lit. However, its OK to add cooking wood chunks after the charcoal has heated up, to add a smokey flavor.

Happy Grilling!!

My weber genesis silver starts up, but doesn't get hot enough to cook the food. Seems like not enough flame out of either front or back burners. I tried Outting in a full propane tank, but that didn't...

Try these steps in order.
  1. Turn off the gas at the propane tank
  2. Disconnect the gas line from the tank
  3. Open the grill lid
  4. Turn all control valves to high
  5. Wait for about a minute
  6. Turn all control valves to off
  7. Reconnect the gas line to the tank
  8. SLOWLY turn on the gas at the tank
  9. Light the grill normally
  10. Your grill should now heat normally

It takes a very long time to cook anything on the weber grill. it never gets really hot. The grill is about six years old. What do I do to correct this problem?

check for rust/debris on the nozzles (these are small screws with single hole in them inside of the burner, clean the burner, dissassembly and clean the valves on the grill NOT ON THE BOTTLE!

this should solve the problem, alternatively, if burner was not used for long time, regulator maybe stuck in this position and will need replacement.

Two burners run too hot with yellow flame.

Hello,
It sound like your back burners have a partial blockage or possibly are rusting or falling apart or have cracked seams. Remove the cooking grids and burner shields, and examine the burners closely. If you can't find a blockage inside (spider web, bugs nest, etc) then their condition is probably deteriorating. Let us know if you need more assistance.

Flame up & really bad hot spot , flavor bars keep catching on fi

Remove the cooking grids and briquette grid if applicable, so you can see the burners when lit. It should be an even blue flame thoughout. If not, you may need a cleaning or replace burner(s).

How do i know the coals are still hot and cooking my food and im not sure ive placed them right in weber

Pile the charcoal up in the center of the weber to light them. Wait until they all turn white, most people don't wait long enough. Then spread them out in one layer on the bottom. Put on the grate and cook.

How do I take my Weber Genesis grill apart to clean the burners? The burners are not heating up properly. The flame is very poor and not hot enough to cook food.

Turn on just one burner, once it is lit, turn on a second burner, if the flame gets lower or goes out, you probably need a new regulator.
