Windows xp boot disk

Note: The Microsoft Windows XP CD is a bootable CD and in many cases you should not need a bootable floppy diskette. Booting from the Windows XP CD will allow you to not only install/re-install Windows XP but will also allow you to troubleshoot it.

Create MS-DOS bootable diskette

When formatting a floppy diskette, users have the option of creating a MS-DOS startup disk, follow the below steps to do this.

1. Place diskette in the computer.

2. Open My Computer, right-click the A: drive and click Format.

3. In the Format window, check Create an MS-DOS startup disk.

4. Click Start

Create Windows XP Setup diskettes

Microsoft is beginning to phase out bootable floppy diskettes in favor of bootable CD discs and has not included a method of easily creating a bootable floppy diskette in Windows XP or from the CD. However, Microsoft has downloads available for users who still need to create bootable diskettes to install (not upgrade) Windows XP. These downloads can be found through KB310994.

hope this helps

How to install windows xp sp2 by using dr-dos

1. Check your BIOS to be sure your computer will boot from a CD. Enter the BIOS setup by pressing the "Delete" or F2 or "F12" key, or as directed at the startup screen, immediately after booting. Set the first boot device to "CDROM" or "DVDROM" instead of "hard drive" if it isn't already.

2. MS-DOS command prompt

Insert the Windows XP installation CD into your CD or DVD drive and restart the computer. When prompted, choose to start from the MS-DOS command prompt with CD support. The MS-DOS command prompt will appear in a moment.

3. Start SMARTDRIVE by typing "SMARTDRV" at the DOS prompt and pressing enter. You don't have to run SMARTDRIVE, but copying the files will be much quicker if you do. The computer will display the DOS prompt again.

4. Enter "CD I386" at the DOS prompt to change to the directory where the setup program starts.

5. Enter "WINNT" at the prompt to start Windows XP setup. The installation program will copy files to your computer and then display a message requesting to reboot.

6. Press the "Enter" key to reboot. The setup program will start again and check that your hard drive format is compatible with Windows XP. If not, it will guide you through partitioning and formatting the drive and then ask you to reboot once more.

7. Press "Enter" to reboot. The computer will restart in Windows XP mode and automatically start the Windows Setup Wizard to detect your hardware and finish the installation.

Unable to install XP OS to MSI lap top

insert a bootable xp cd into the cd drive and hit enter continuosly...it ll ask to hit any key to continue from cd...hit any screen and follow the onscreen instructions...

if it doesnt works, try this....
u can log in to the setup by pressing del key or F2(depends upon make and model) and change the drive booting order...change the first booting device as CD/DVD and second booting device to HDD...
now it ll prompt you to hit any key to start from CD/DVD....
Make sure you have inserted a bootable XP CD in CD drive....Bootable XP CD's can be created only from another bootable XP cd by taking an image from that cd and writing it back to the cd...you can use NERO Copy disc option for this purpose...it ll create an iso image and you can use only this to write into the disc...

HP530 shuts down within 15 seconds as it loads XP

Probabpy an XP problem, start XP in safe mode (press F8) as it is loading.
If it runs then it is probably a driver problem. Try restarting in the last good configuration. Keep posting until the problem is resolved.

I am not able to install Windows XP on Compaq Presario CQ60-104TU

Recommend removing OLD DOS Operating system First. Then Install Windows XP. XP will NOT upgrade older systems unless it's Windows 98 and Fully Updated. However, can NO Longer do because Microsoft does NOT support any versions other than "2000/ME/XP/Vista".

Vista upgrade

If your main goal is to remove Vista and install XP, then the straight dope is to format your drive and reinstall XP. In this case, you will need your XP installation cd (with the serial #, of course) or an MS-DOS boot floppy or cd that you can get from the internet (check www.bootdisk.com). Have your PC boot on the the ms-dos boot disk or to your XP installation CD. If you are using the XP installation CD, just press R to repair existing installation. You will be given a command line. When you are already logged on (i.e. c:> appears), type "format c:" NOTE: make sure you have backed up your important data before doing this. Once it's done, you can restart the computer and boot again on the installation cd and install as normal. Note that C: here refers to the drive where Vista is installed. It can be any letter, depending on your setup. I'm afraid I can't help you with getting Vista back, because the serial number is the most essential part of the installation. You can grab any copy of Vista, but without the serial, it's useless.

You could try bootinge from a CD. You can get some really good ones here: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

If you have XP installation CDs you should be able to boot frmo them and go along from there.
