If you have a bright flashlight, power on the PC and monitor, and shine the light on the screen (really). Move the light and your head around and look for your desktop... It is usually good to try to make out "Start" on the taskbar in the lower left.

If you see a faint image of your desktop, either the backlights are blown or the inverter board supplying power to the backlights is blown. Either way the monitor would cost more to repair than it is likely worth. If the screen displays the ghost image, you may be able to sell it on ebay for some $$ as a "for parts" monitor.

The first solution offered is fine if the screen is an LCD type screen, if it is an older CRT (yes there are people who use them still, I happen to have one still on a server) then most likely the main tube is blown.

Does the unit power on? Check the power supply if it is an LCD unit, could be that the power supply is bad and not the screen, if that is the case a replacement supply is usually around $50.00 US. I would not waste much time on the problem, as you can purchase a new larger screen with better resolution and faster refresh for a few hundred dollars.

I always have a spare CRT monitor sitting around just for use in emergencies. If worse comes to worse, and you can't afford a NEW LCD unit, check your local Thrift Store or Goodwill Donation Center for a used monitor. It will cost you about $10.00 for a temporary replacement until you can afford a new LCD 27" unit! I know you won't be able to play W.o.W on a little 14" CRT, but you can manage for a few days or weeks.

**** it up soldier! In the old days of PC's we were happy with a CGA or EGA monitor that supported 16 colors at .47 dot pitch. hahaha.

Cheers,

Keith

Well, usually, this lead to this rechecks:

My Hp notebook screen is black, sometimes it fades in and out black to grey then to black.how can i fix it

Connect your laptop to an external monitor and switch to monitor. If the external monitor shows the desktop, then the complaint is in the lcd/led display unit means the screen. Replace the screen. If the external monitor also shows the complaint, then it is normally due the mch(media controller hub) . It comes as separate card unit in some models and onboard for some other models.Only an experienced technician can solve that issue. In some rare cases it is due to a corrupted BIOS. Reply if this helped you.

Gateway desktop screen is black

Swap the cables between the PC and the monitor. Does the fault stay with the monitor or switch to the PC? If it switches, your power lead is dead (possibly a blown fuse). If it stays, your monitor is probably dead.

Screens shows but then gos black

Confirm that all the input cables at the back are securely plugged at the rear of the screen and PC/output source and that the image source is switched on and displaying an image. This can be done by switching your PC on and waiting five mins. Then check that the power for the screen is on. If this does not work, then let me know

Screen is blak, has power

That either means it is not getting the signal from the PC or there is a problem in the monitor. You should try this monitor on another PC first, also check or try another VGA cable. Just need to narrow down the problem to either PC or the Monitor.

It switches on for just a second and then the screen stays blank

yetimonsta, Are you sure that the monitor is BLANK?? Or is it just BLACK? Or is it both BLANK and BLACK? Connect a known good monitor to your pc to prove that your pc is working correctly. What does your L90D+ do when connected to good pc. Have you done the flashlight test to evaluate the state of the "switch-mode-power-supply" when lcd panel goes black /blank?? Image appears for 2-3 seconds then screen goes black

The following steps are how to examine what's wrong with your LCD monitors. After you turned it on and the screen went black, you have to check that if you can see the image on the screen or not by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or any image, there will be a minor problem. This is because of the lamps inside screen. Some of them were broken and it is very easy to replace. If you cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It may cause this problem. Some caps might show leaking or burn spot on the board because of too high temp. If you don't have soldering tool, you better go get a technician to do so. Hope this help!! If anything I can help you with, feel free to let me know.
Thank you,
Tan
