Maytag Top Load Washer Won't work automatically

My wife has to manually turn the timer to the next step to get the washer to work. Do I just replace the timer?

Hey, look in the back behind the washer and make sure that the hose is clipped up high enough to stop the water from just running out at free will.
What happens is that if the hose is just running out of the back of the washer straight to the floor drain, and it's just laying on the floor, your tub never fills up with water which means your machine won't advance to the next level in its cycle.
Does this make sense? Clip the hose up toward the top of your washer in the back and you should see your washer completing its full cycles.

If manually turning the timer allows it to spin and drain, then I would say the used timer installed was also defective. Try a new timer. You will save money if you get it online or go to an appliance parts store like "Mid-America Appliance" rather than Sears or the likes. Hope this helps.

My maytag ensignia fills with water but stops after that. if you turn the knob to the next step, it will agitate but it wont go to the next step by itself.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that the Timer(part#7 in the picture) has gone bad and needs to be replaced.

Also, check the Timer knob and if you hear a clicking sound then its certain that you need to replace the Timer as everything else seems to be working fine. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

MY MAYTAG ATLANTIS WASHER KEEPS WASHING RIGHT THROUGH THE RINSE AND SPIN CYCLES. I HAVE TO MANUALLY TURN IT TO GET IT TO START DOING THE RIGHT THING.

Hi, your timer motor not working,(burnt) or could be mechanical fault in timer, but first replace timer motor, check for timer motor, give appliances store model & serial no. for washer, and let me know when you get it, i will guide you, to install it, yes you can, it's not that complicated. don't forget asked for timer motor. good luck.

hi there,

can you check if the timer button makes it to the off position? i have a strong suspicion that it may not. if it doesn't it will need to be replaced. if it does than the problem is most likely the lid switch.

thanks

Timer stuck on cycle will work if manually moved

The timer has a small motor that advances it through the cycles. It either works or it's DOA. unfortunately you probably have to replace the timer complete.
