All carbon brushes have an electric wire attatched to them, that needs to be gently praised off (make sure the machine is unplugged from electrical outlet), then using a flat headed screw driver, push in the clip that is holding the brush in place and at the same time gently pull the carbon brush up.

To replace the brush, simply push it back into its slot (but gently and carefully because it can snap) until you hear a click then replace the electric wire.

If you have left the rubber band on the brush when you inserted it back into it's holder, simply cut the band at the top and very gently pull it up until it is removed.

Why won't the drum spin on my washing machine and can I fix it myself

Very likely the brushes are worn, these are located either side of the motor. if you are able to take the motor off the machine but don't know where the brushes are, take the motor to your local repairer who will probably change the brushes for you at a small fee plus brushes. if you are able to identify the brushes and can take them off, the carbon inside the brush holder should be no less than half and inch long. If its less they are probably worn out. get new ones and replace. be careful the carbon brush is very brittle and will break easily. I can't be more specific on changing the brushes as each machine is different.

No final spin

Take the power plug off the wall. Be prepared for a lot of water before attempting the following. It doesn't spin because the unit is not draining water. It will not spin with water in it - must drain first. Check drain hose for kink, check exit pipe for blockage. Remove the front access panel, bottom front, screws beneath; if you find a hose there with a cap -this is for draining water. Could be your "coin trap assembly" is blocked, therefore not allowing all the water to pump out. Remove the clamp (or unscrew) that connects the trap assembly to the pump and clean it out.

Coming the second aspect if the above gives no result:
Perhaps you need new carbons brushes for the motor. It is a fairly straightforward repair. Remove the top cover, screws at rear, and slide top cover off towards the rear. The motor is located at the top right right rear, you will see the drive belt. Slacken the bolt that holds the motor, and push the motor down towards the top of the drum. You will see the 2 brush holders, they will be either black or white, pull the wires off the holder terminals, and depress the plastic lug that holds the brushes in place, slide the brushes out of the motor. The length of the brush should be at least half an inch long or replace. Fit new genuine carbon brushes, and follow instructions on packaging. Push the leads back on to the carbon terminals. tighten up motor, and make sure the belt is reasonably tight. Test on final spin before you refit top cover.

Maytag washer mhwe300vw13 will not spin

Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it. Snaking out your standpipe would be good too.

Hotpoint wmf 720 H20 fault

If it tries occasionally to fill on rinse for a short time and pumps out/drains if the hose is flat on the floor but the programming seems off, its the motor carbon brushes worn down.
To prove it if you have no spares, remove the brush holders and gently stretch the carbons out of the holders a little bit so that they touch the commutator in the motor when refitted. The copper pigtail will usualy give about 2mm stretch if you are careful.
It will maybe work for a few days whilst you get new brushes.

Cannot get clothes out meesage e30 what can I do?

Hi, E30 indicates a fault in the motor circuit, unplug the appliance and take the top off. Either side of the motor you'll find a carbon brush holder. Disconnect the wire to the carbon brush and take the holder out. If worn or broken, replace with new ones.

We have an old kenmore model #20101 the old girl washes great but will not spin. it aagitates during rinse and the pump works. we have pulled the switch and pushed back in wheen it is suppose to go to spin...

Plug off the mains. The filter on your pump is probably clogged with lint and stuff. You have to remove the bottom front panel, 3 torx screws underneath. The panel will drop and come off. Drain off the excess water from the drain pipe you see. The white filter cover is right in front. Get yourself a bunch of towels, a good big plastic bag or a wet vac to collect water. Unscrew the filter cover and twist the filter out. Clean out all the stuff and put it back in carefully.
The machine being old; check motor brushes, the brush holders will be either black or white, depress the plastic lug that holds the brush in place, and slide the holders out, remove the wires to the brushes, and check the carbons, if there is less than 3 mm left replace them.
Only fit the genuine brushes, and try fit the black ones, as they are better than the white. Follow the instructions on the packaging on how to release the carbons from the captive position.

Hotpoint WM 22 wont spin

The first you need to do is check the brushes in the motor.
Remve the screws at rear of top cover, remove cover.
Slacken off the 2 bolts securing motor, and remove belt.Remove 2 screws that hold motor and lift motor up so you can access the brushes..
The brush holders will be either black or white, depress the plastic lug that holds the brush in place, and slide the holders out, remove the wires to the brushes, and check the carbons, if their is less than 2 or 3 mm left, then replace them.
Only fit the genuine brushes, and if you can make sure you fit the black ones, as they are better than the white ones.
Follow the instructions on the packaging on how to release the carbons from the captive position.
Refit motor, and ensure the belt is reasonably tight.
If it still does not work ,then the motor itself could be faulty, check for broken wires in the motor plug and harness.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.

hi Many universal motor malfunctions are caused by wearing down of the carbon brushes, the soft blocks of carbon that complete the electrical contact to the motor's commutator. When these brushes become worn, the motor will spark, and electrical contact may be incomplete.try this
Step 1: To sight-check the carbon brushes, remove the screws that hold the brushes and brush springs into the brush holders at the sides of the commutator. The screws will pop out of the screw holes; turn the motor over to tap out the brushes. The ends of the brushes should be curved to fit the commutator; if they're worn down, new brushes are needed.
Step 2: To check carbon brushes with a continuity tester, remove the motor lead wires from the circuit. Tag the wires as you disconnect them so that you'll be able to reconnect them properly. Hook the tester clip to one motor lead and touch the probe to the other lead; the tester should light or buzz. Slowly rotate the motor shaft, keeping the tester in position. If the tester doesn't light or buzz, or if it flickers or stutters when you turn the motor shaft, the brushes should be replaced. If the springs behind the brushes are damaged, they should be replaced as well.

Step 3: Replace worn carbon brushes and damaged springs with new ones made specifically for the motor. The model information (number and make) is stamped on a metal plate fastened to the motor, or embossed on the metal housing of the motor. If you can't find the model information, take the worn brushes and springs with you to an appliance-parts store to make sure you get the right kind. Insert the new springs and brushes in the brush holders, replace the brush assemblies, and secure the new brushes with the mounting screws that held the old brushes.
