Could be a short in the heating element.

needs a current meter to further help you. the tool the we call clamp meter that would measure current being drawn by the equipment.

because we might end up replacing a good heating element and the problem is the circuit breaker.

circuit breakers could also become faulty and would trip off even with a good unit plugged unto it. no longer calibrated.

My Hotpoint tvf770 starts but does not appear to heat and it stops after a few minutes. I have checked the filter and exhaust tube for blockages, both clear.

Suspect a broken/burned off wire to the heater element, or 'open circuit' of the heater element, or thermostat fault

Tip

Common faults on a hotpoint tdc32

Common faults -
1 The heating elements can fail(meaning open circuit)

2 There are cut-outs (T.O.C's) that might need resetting

3 The thermostats (stats) can trip out or burn out (meaning open circuit)

4 Modern tumble dryers also have sensors and pcb's (Printed circuitboards) these have programs that can fail and circuitry although most should produce an error code showing you were the fault is.

5 Faulty connections and burned wires may also bethe fault.

Dryer wont heat up

There could be a number of reasons why your dryer is not heating.
1) The element may be faulty
2) A thermostat or thermistor could be faulty or need resetting (if you have one with a reset button) You would need to check your hand book for this info.
3) you could have a wiring fault or lose terminal.
4) If you have a dryer with a revers tumble (one that goes in the opposit direction for a few minutes before continueing) on some models this incorperates a revers timer that works off the main timer and when it is in revers tumble the heater is switched off. If the timer is faulty it would keep the heater permanently switched off.

The tumble dryer trips out

It sound as though it is overheating.

This may be caused by a reduction of air flowing through the machine.

Check all the filters and the out pipe for blockages that would restrict the air flow.

Tumble dryer when switched on cuts power to all sockets in house

Hi.
Try it with the heater disconnected, you will find it at the rear of the m/c at the bottom left behind a removable panel.
You may have to remove the top cover and the right hand side panel looking at the m/c from the front. Try it again.
I fit does not trip. then your heater is faulty.
If it still trips then you are probably going to have to call en engineer
