Wharfedale TV power problems

32 inch Wharfedale LCD TV bought from argos keeps switching itself off arbitarily while in use. Problems started on the 13th month of purchase. TV now permanently on standby. PLEASE HEEELLLP!!! Same problem with my Wharfedale purchased just over a year ago and had initial problems with it switching off and not being able to turn it back on. Sent it back for repair and it has been fairly reliable for a year but in the last week or so has started to switch itself off consistently every five minutes. Have consulted a TV repair place and they mentioned 'dry' somethings might be the cause but said it would cost £70-90 but they may not be able to fix it. Surely if other people are having the same problem the manufacturers must be responsible.

The problem occurs in ur main board...check all tge resistor in board...the faulty resistor will; allow high voltage to the main board and affect it

    • A low voltage power transformer feeding one or more sets of rectifiers,
      filter capacitors, and possibly regulators.

A power surge could cause the primary of the transformer to open up.
There may also be a thermal fuse under the outer layers of insulation
which blew either due to overheating or a power surge. However, if the
primary is open, it is best to replace the transformer rather than
      attempting repair it.

    • One or more voltage dividers connected directly to the AC line feeding
rectifiers, filter capacitors, and possibly regulators.

Open resistors and dried up capacitors are common failures since the
resistors are often not rated adequately and run hot, in close proximity
      to the capacitors.

    • A portion of the main (switchmode) power supply that runs all the time.

Failures could be almost anything that would affect normal operation of
the power supply as well as problems with the control circuitry.

If there is a low voltage regulator or separate switching supply, it
could be cycling on and off if the horizontal output, flyback, or
one of its secondary loads were defective.

Does this TV have a separate low voltage regulator and/or switching power
supply or is it all part of the flyback circuit?

Verify that the main filter capacitor is doing its job. Excessive ripple
on the rectified line voltage bus can cause various forms of shutdown
behavior. An easy test is to jumper across the capacitor with one of
at least equal voltage rating and similar capacitance (make connections
    with power off!).

Use a Variac, if possible, to bring up the input voltage slowly and see if
the TV works at any point without shutting down. If it does, this could be
an indication of X-ray protection circuit kicking in, though this will
usually latch and keep the set shut off if excessive HV were detected.

Ive had my dynex 42 inch for 2 years and now its starting to turn off by itself. what may be the problem

Try changing the input device to something you are sure works. Switch off TV manually, switch off power, remove plug and retry after 48 hours. If problem persists, please refer it to a qualified service technician.

BRAND NEW JUST TOOK OUT OF BOX VIZIO E320VL 32 INCH FLAT SCREEN TV Menu constantly pops up and flips endlessly through the choices. Ignores you when you try to enter a selection and move back to what...

I would not keep a new LCD TV that has immediate problems. I would get a refund and purchase a more standard brand television. Experience has taught me that if one has problems immediately with an LCD TV itself, it is likely to continue to be problematic.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Got a wharfedale NE-3272 DAB/CD Micro system, had it about four months now for my birthday. On friday(about three days ago)it started for no reason to switch itself to stand-by after about three seconds...

I had a similar problem with my wharfedale NE-3272 DAB/CD. Argos replaced it. Now the new one switches itself off when I switch to cd. I think it's one of those that look the part but are really just poorly made tat.

Sharp Aquos 32

Sounds like one of three things:

1) Mainboard/Tuner problems - although I'm really only saying this because you guys seem to think its associated with your over the air channels.
2) Power board problems. You power board/inverter may be damaged in some way - blown capacitor or other malfunctions. This is very possible as this could result in the backlight turning off and the screen going black but keeping the keeping the sound. If this is the problem, it will at some time start to happen constantly. Have a pro open it up and look at the power board.

3) The backlight is defective/dying. The backlight is a set of lights that reflects through the LCD panel. If the screen looks black, but you might see a faint picture or you still hear sound, then the backlight is not on. The panel itself could be defective. You can fix it by replacing the whole LCD panel (expensive), replacing the backlight panel itself (need a busted LCD of the same size with a working backlight), or fix the backlight, which is tough and risky.

Most likely its either the power board or backlight. Either way, you need someone to open up the TV and take a look inside. Good luck! Hope it works out.
