Question about Olympus D-545 Zoom Digital Camera

Open Question

Turns on and instantly takes photo? Then nothing?

My camera has worked fine for about a year and a half now. Starting yesterday, and ever since however when I turn on the camera it focuses and takes a photo instantly. Then I can not take another photo the buttons will not work on the camera at all but I can still view the LCD and it shows me what the lens sees. If i turn off the camera and take out the batteries (power button still works when 'froze') I can turn the camera on and it wont take a photo. I can then view the pics on the XD card, delete them, go into the menu. I formatted the camera. HOWEVER, once I try and take a picture by pressing the shutter button the camera freezes up again. Only if I turn the camera off and then back on the camera then will take the photo. If anyone knows what the problem is please let me know. The zoom still works when the camera powers on the lens goes in and out no problem. You can hear the camera focus when it takes the eratic photos. Any responce will help. Thanks.

SOURCE: Olympus C-765 does not focus

Dear Benjamin,

I also own an olympus c765 and was wondering how to use the manual focus option when I came across your post. Actually I have been wondering whether manual focus is of any use in an olympus c765 because the manual does not talk anything about it.
However, I just found out that there is a way of activating/deactivating manual focus. Here it goes:
1. Turn the camera on
2. Switch to any mode - portrait/landscape etc
3. Press and hold the 'OK' button on the centre for a second until you see a MF/AF option on the screen
4. Switch to MF and focus on any subject by pressing the up/down keys.

Most likely, your camera has been turned to Manual Focus option, which is why it is not focussing any more. Follow the steps above and turn it back to Auto Focus option and let me know if your problem gets solved.

SOURCE: Digital Zoom and Auto Focus "On" settings are not kept/retained

If you shoot in the P mode setting and then go to the Menu and set the option for All Reset to OFF. The camera will retain those settings when powered off. If you are shooting in the AUTO mode the camera will always default back to the factory setting of OFF when the camera is powered off. The All Reset function is not able to be set in the AUTO mode because the camera is already using factory default settings.

if it happens when autofocusing just try to clean the lens contacts on the lens and inside the camera body for starters.

Where do you put batteries in a polariod 600 one step camera?

The batteries are part of the photo pack, when you change photo packs the battery changes at the same time.

Unfortunately almost all unused photo packs will now have flat batteries as they've been out of production for two and a half years now. Photo packs advertised as having been stored in a fridge will definitely have dead batteries as cold kills batteries. Photo packs kept out of a fridge may have some residual battery power, but not enough to last the full ten photos, and the chemicals may have gone stale resulting in poor quality photos.

The only solution is to modify the camera to take an external 6v power supply, such as a battery or a socket to accept a plug in DC adapter. It involves opening the camera (not easy: it's all clip together and was never designed to be dismantled) and then soldering wires to the camera's battery contacts and feeding them out through a hole drilled into the bottom of the camera. A flat Polaroid battery may have enough residual power for you to determine the contact polarity using a test meter. Get it wrong and the camera is dead, but Polaroid 600's are ten a penny at charity/thrift shops and free on FreeCycle/Freegle. Modifying the camera without dismantling it is possible, but very fiddly and you need to be careful not to let the hot soldering iron melt any of the plastic camera. It's like trying to perform keyhole surgery!

I've done this modification myself a few years ago, but last year gave the camera to an eager photography student.

Turns itself off every time I try to take a photo

I had a similar problem with my Cyber-shot S600. It just turned off every time I tried to take a photo. I bought a Sony recharger + batteries and it fixed the problem. Camera works fine and I'm impressed with the how long the batteries last between charges.
