Post back with the model number of your computer to determine max RAM. If you can go from 512MB to 2 GB, it will definitely increase the speed.

And no, the computer does not automatically backup your files. You need to set it up. There is probably a backup utility in your programs. Try Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools.

Of course, if you do backup, you will need a drive to backup to...another HD, flash drive, or external drive.

Right click on "my Computer" and select "Manage" then in the box which appears select "Disk Management. See if you drive is listed in the lower pane of the disk management window. You may be prompted to initialise disk, this may solve your problem, or if the disk is showing then right click and select change drive letter or paths, in the next box select add or change then select a letter from the drop down list andclick ok. Your drive should now show in "My Computer"

Be certain that you are changing the correct drives letter as if you change your boot drive letter you will have lots of problems.

Computers shut down randomly while students are working on them. Red light blinks on the front of the CPU. The computers have Deep Freeze and Synchron Eyes on them as well.

Open the PC box. Check the CPU heatsink/fan for dust clogs. After that is cleaned, put a little fan blowing onto the mobo. An over heating processor acts just like this. If the BIOS were changed try to scale back a little, first. Just see if the venting solves its prob. Wont cost you anything, and it wont hurt....
