Question about Tyan S5396A2NRF Dual LGA771 XEON5000 5100 SATA2 Raid Audio 1394 GLAN ATX Motherboard (635872021268)

Tyan S5396 and Thermaltake 1500W

Have Theramaltake Eureka Case,Thermaltake W0171 1500W Psu,Tyan i5400XT S5396A2NRF, 2 Intel Quad Core CPU E5405A,Kingston RAM 4G Stick, Powercolor HD3870XT1GB GPU and 6 WD 5000aaks drives in Raid 1+0. OK when cold power supply only spins fans for half a second on startup.Have RMA'd both PSU and Mobo and came back with no faults.

Procedure used to try and isolate problem. First turned off power then drain mobo by holding front case button 3 seconds till light on mobo goes out then tried turniong power back on psu then front case button and still only get spins. My tech has spoken directly with tech at Digicor Australia in Clayton. When mobo RMA'd it had Bios update, tech seems to think it may have a short on the board in mounting. Ther have been other references on google about this startup problem but seems to be no answers. I have contacted Tyan directly but have no response. My tech seems to think it is a timing issue on between mobo and psu. Thanks if you can help.

Tyan i5400xt.. to test for ground.. pull the board from the chassis and test with a different known good power supply

if the boot works... then you have a power supply issue...

does the board have a post code lighted signal ???

if so.. a bad power supply should goto FF error code

verify you have enough power on the cpu rail with your power supply specifications also

be sure you have all cables 4 pin 8 pin and 20/24 pin connections done correctly.. lastestly check if the board is touching the chassis edge anywhere... could cause a ground

also take and loosen all the MB screws from the chassis.. just let it hang there this will test the grounds needs the screw connections

Intel Core 2 Quad 8200 with a 945GCT-M3? Will it work?

Hello here is the homepage:

http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?CategoryID=1&DetailID=719&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=1&LanID=0

Here you can see the supported cpu list.

The quad core cpu will not run on this mainboard.

Here is info about the quad cpu:

http://ark.intel.com/products/36547/Intel-Core2-Quad-Processor-Q8200-4M-Cache-2_33-GHz-1333-MHz-FSB

But you can add a Intel Core 2 Extreme LGA775
This should give a noteable difference compares to the old single core cpu.

Remember also to buy a bigger cpu cooling element.

Here is no upgrade for the bios.

Good luck

According to their website, no. The core 2 duo is supported, but not quad core. http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?DetailID=674&CategoryID=1&MenuID=16&LanID=0
Look under the cpu tab.

Does Microstar MS7525 motherboard support Intel(R) Core 2 Quad Q8300 cpu and ATI Radeon HD5450?

Hi, you can see some info here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01386897&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en#N280

As far that i can see you can not use the Quad core cpu
in this mainboard.
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
  • Core 2 Duo E7xxx (Wolfdale-M)
  • Core 2 Duo E4x00 (Conroe)
  • Pentium E2xxx series (Conroe)
  • Celeron Dual Core E1xx0 series (Conroe)
  • Celeron 4xx series (Conroe)

But you can use the graphic card as long it is PCI-E.

Which is the best cpu that can i buy? i have the gigabyte 8ipe775-g rev 1.1 thanks

Well that is kind of a far off question. Do you want to know the best processor on the market or the best processor for your motherboard?
The best one I would say for your motherboard (LGA775) would be Intel Core 2 Quad or Intel Core 2 Extreme (The extreme is just an unlocked and overclocked Core 2 Quad)
The best Processor on the market however would be on the LGA 1366 and LGA 1155 Sockets as teh Intel Core I7.

if the computer powers on w/o video , it could be heat issue with the CPU, --turn off the computer, remove battery and rear case - remove the heatsink fan and apply new thermal paste on the CPU- then put heatsink fan back , battery -- and turn on computer --if the issue persists, its bad onboard video card

Abit ip95 mobo

You should really check these things first or consult the motherboard documentation which lists in great detail what the board supports

Get yourself a new manual if youve lost the one that came with it

ftp://ftp.abitshop.com/pub//manual/english/ip-95.zip

And to answer your problem , no you cant have a quad core

your specification says

"CPU - LGA775 Socket for Intel Core 2 Duo/ Pentium D/ Pentium 4/ Celeron D/ Celeron Processors with 1066 MHz FSB - Supports Intel Hyper-Threading Technology "

It would say "Intel Core 2 Quad" if you could

Try powering it up and it will probably either:-

a)Overheat
b)Spark and set on fire if theres not enough cooling
c) Cause a power cut , Quad cores take more power than the boards designed to support , otherwise they would have said i t supported quad cores.
d)Fry up the motherboard , making it useless
e)Fry up the processor , making it useless
f) all of the above
