i have a Samsung CRT monitor. sometimes when i turn on the computer the monitor is blank, but the computer boots fine. when this happens i have checked plugging the vga cable of the monitor to the laptop vga port and the monitor works just fine. sometimes the monitor works and in such a situation, if i shutdown the computer and turn it on again sometimes the monitor is blank. im begining to think this could be something wrong with the mother-board. cannot say for sure when it would work or when it wouldnt. sometimes it works for 2-3 days without any problem and stops working for another 2-3 days.the first time this started i was working with the computer and the whole screen suddenly went white. then i turned the computer off and then turned on again, then the monitor was blank.
Thanks, Dhanushka

- thanks Lemmor. my main-board is a new one and i've been using it only for 7 months. i'll get the main-board checked. Thanks. :)
if the monitor works fine on your laptop, the problem definitely is at the computer, possibly with the video card (if it is using one). it could have loose connection, or parts might have damages. it seems the problem is intermittent so electronic component of the video card could have parts partially damages or leaky components. if your still using the motherboards built in video out put, try installing a new video card.

I have a Dell Optiplex 360 computer with a service date of 9/7/09 that operates on the XP system. The monitor is Dell model E173FPc, manufactured 8/04. The monitor remains dark when the system is on even though the power is on as indicated by the power switch being green. All connections are tight. The computer system will work with a different monitor. Is it worth trying to fix the monitor?
