Question about HP DeskJet 5550 InkJet Printer
I have a HP 5550 printer. Its worked fine for the longest time. It seems out of nowhere it stopped working. It will print a test page, but nothing through any other programs on my computer. It still works good with other computers. I'm sure I some how deleted something needed to make it work. I have a feeling, even a new printer would have the same result. I tried all the obvious solutions. Uninstalled and reinstalled the printer and software, checked usb cables ports, etc. [remember it prints fine using my laptop.] Please Can someone help? This has been driving me crazy. Thanks, Nick P.S. Could it have anything to do with windows update scp2 rc2?
Looks like I found the problem: The 5550's driver software (version 7.1) is apparently not compatible with XP SP2's "Data Execution Prevention" feature. Go to My Computer, right click & select Properties. Choose the Advanced panel. Click the first Settings button, in the Performance Section. Choose the Data Execution Prevention panel. Choose the first radio button, "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only", not the second one "Turn on DEP for all ...." The first radio button (essential programs only) was what was selected when I got the machine, but I myself had upped the setting to the more restrictive level. Longstride
