I plugged my player into the computer to recharge it. Initially I did this without first pressing menu. I then got a message that it was connected but it didn't recharge. I then unplugged it pressed menu changed some settings and it got stuck in a given mode (Radio Options - Delete all Presets) and no amount of pressing or turning anything will unstick it. What to do?

The gpx ML638B has 2 modes while plugged into the computer. 1 as a usb mass storage, the other i believe was called an mtx device. these modes are switched by pressing the "mode" button on the side while connected to the PC. try switching between the 2 modes and browsing the drive letter it is assigned to to find and delete songs individually. when all else fails you can always select from settings menu to format which will delete everything. and or you can use the master reset button using a pin or paper clip in the back of it.
As for only turning on when it is connected to the PC. then most likely your internal rechargable battery isnt charged enough yet or has bit the dust. try lleaving it plugged up for a few hours to charge fully through the usb connection.
Try forcing the iPod into disc mode to restore.
Putting ipod into disc mode
Toggle the Hold switch on and off.
(Set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will change and say "Do not disconnect"
If you are having difficulty putting the iPod model into disk mode, set it on a flat surface. Make sure that the finger pressing the Select button is not touching the Click Wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Play/Pause button toward the outside of the Click Wheel and not near the center.
If you are still unable to put your iPod with a Click Wheel into Disk Mode, use one finger from one hand to press the Select button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Play/Pause button.
If this does not make the iPod connect to your computer, I would suggest checking out www.rapidrepair.com for further ideas and options to your issue.
Hi! I think you should try this (i've already tried it and it works):
1- Unplug your Zen from your Computer.
2-Turn off your Zen (if you can't do it, press the "Reset" button)
3- BEFORE turning on your Zen, press your "Play" button and hold it while you turn on.
4-When a format menu appears, select the "Format All" option (you'll loose all your Zen data).
5-When the format menu reapears, select the "Reboot" option and listo!
You have your Zen as new and should not have problem. Good luck!
When you power on your MP3 player it will go to the FM radio. 1. Press menu.
2. Go down once and you'll be on "Mode". Press the right button to access the mode menu.
3. You either press the enter button after accessing the menu or go down to select Playback mode (I forget which one it is).
