Water trickles into Kenmore front load while machine is off and door is open

After finishing laundry on Sunday, I left the washing machine door open to try to prevent a recurrence of that horrible odor that sometimes permeates a load of laundry. Late Tuesday night, I traced the water leaking from the ceiling of our garage up into the second floor laundry room where I discovered the bottom of the washing machine tub was full of water and a small stream was trickling out of the open door. Water had puddled on the floor and was making its way down through the first floor ceiling. I turned the water valves off at the wall, ran the drain cycle and unplugged the machine. Now what? Any ideas on why water would be entering the machine even though the machine was off and the door was open (unlatched)? The only thing I've done differently lately is cleaning the rim under the rubber boot after running a long, hot bleach cycle without clothes in hopes of mitigating the odor problem. The washing machine is a Kenmore Elite HE 3t (110-44921-300) purchased in 2004.

Thank you for your quick response. We'll be checking the water inlet valve this weekend to see if replacing it is a DIY project for us or not. I'll let you know how it turns out (with a rating later). Thanks again for your response.

That was it! Thank you very much for your excellent advice. We replaced the water inlet valve and have not had a recurrence of the leak. Once you identified the problem for us (and even gave us the part number), we were able to repair this problem ourselves. Thanks again!

I have the same problem... However I turned the water off to it last week and it still is leaking... Is it still the water inlet valve??

Door stuck closed after wash is done

If the water in the machine is above a certain level a fail safe on the door lock will not allow it to be opened. Check the filter, make sure the machine has completely drained. Obviously, there may be a problem with the lock itself but try this first.
All the best

Front Load Washing Machine Filling On It's Own

the inlet valves are shot. what happens the coils in the inlet vales can no longer hold the water from going into the unit, causing water to run into unit when not in use. replace the inlet valves and you should be good to go. the inlet valves can be removed by, removing top panel(3screws in back), disconnecting hoses, taking the small clamp on the small hose connected to the dispenser. theirs a small screw holding the inlet valves from back pane, remove old inlet valves and replace and you should be all set. hope it helps.

Laundry smells like mildew after washing

Front load washers retain water that you cant see or get to. There are cleaners for washing machines available. I clean mine every month with alot of bleach , try pouring a half gallon of bleach in the soap insert on a normal wash cycle and an extra rinse would not hurt no clothes of course.

all front loads all brands have same issue with mold people today tend to use less bleach CHLORINE BLEACH that is ..allow machine to fill with hot water normal wash pour 2 cups CHLORINE BLEACH in water allow to wash a few min to mix open door and with cloth wash inside of door gasket be sure to roll gasket back and wash underneath lip allow to finish complete cycle should remove most of mold try to this every few months..also leave door open between use to allow moisture to dry out as much as possible like i said YOU ARE NOT ALONE

it is most likely your machine may have a draining problem. if it cant drain the water out the door wont open. if you open the small door at the front bottom of the machine you will find the little black drain hose. unplug the hose off the door and drain machine. when the machine is empty try powering on and opening the door. if still no luck you will see (in the same location) a red pull ring. undo the screw holding the ring in position and gently pull until the door releases. it would be worth undoing the button trap lid to access the pump and check for any blockages (most common coins **** pins etc) let me know how you get on.
