Similar situation: Tecra L2 circa 2004. While working, the 'preparing to hibernate' screen popped up and it was instantly off. No power. AC adapter was a little frayed, but never got the battery usage meter on the tray so I assumed I was still on AC. Regardless, replaced AC adapter. No lights (orange charging light etc) come on when plugged in. Won't power up with or without battery in. It's way old and I had it backed up on an external hard drive, so no great loss, but now I want to know WHY.

Sooooo....last night I discovered how to take an old laptop apart. The jack is still tight and all soldering points and pins appear solid. I have no multimeter to see if the motherboard is getting any power, and the little light on the ac adapter is flashing green, so I know that the adapter has power.

Thinking it's a system problem, since it went into hibernation mode first....but what do I know...

I have seen this on laptops before you might try re seating the memory. I would also remove the battery from the laptop and see if it will start up on ac power only a bad battery will give you a similar symptom.

This is a common problem for toshiba laptops, unfortunatly. Usually when this happens either your laptop charger is fried, or you will need to replace the actual laptop plug inside the laptop.

How did you check the power to the motherboard?

  • Anrev Oct 31, 2008

Ok, thats what I thought. If it is the actual laptop jack, it would likely still show some power, but the pin in the jack is likely broken and without that, it won't get the power it needs. Does the jack feel a lose at all when you plug in the charger, or is it tight?

  • Anrev Oct 31, 2008

Alright, if you're sure it's neither the charger or the jack then I have no clue what else it could be. Good luck:)

Hello, If the battery won't charge and the laptop won't turn on but the ac adapter works with other laptops, then the problem is the port where you plugin the ac adapter. Some of the laptops has it built in to the motherboard. So you might need to have it repaired by a technician. Or if the laptop is still in warranty, you might need to send it to the manufacturer to have it repaired or replaced. But if the laptop works without the battery, or it will turn on but the battery indicator is not lighting up, you're facing one of these problems. 1. The battery itself is dead. 2. the battery bay is loose 3. the battery itself is loose Hope this helps

Dead toshiba satellite laptop

If the adapter is OK thenconnect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/batterycharging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's powersocket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position thisLED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a drysolder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but itrequires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket andrepair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

My toshiba a200 does not work on charged battery ,but when plugged in it sometimes works and sometimes cuts and dies and shows flashing blue light and refuses to boot at this stag.e,can you help...

Whenyou connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? Ifnot then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's powersocket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DCplug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltageshould be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on thebottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that isprinted on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.

The problem may occur when a temprary file "TempFile.tdi" already existed.
Try once more after removing the file or changing temporary folder.

Try removing the battery. It might be faulty and shorting the adapter.

Remove the power adapter and the battery. Hold the power button in for up to 60 seconds to discharge the laptop. Try starting it again.
