Question about Dell Inspiron 8200 Latitude C840 Laptop Keyboard03J247 CD-ROM Drive

1 Answer

Dropped laptop Hello. I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 that was working pretty much perfectly....until my girlfriend dropped it onto our carpeted floor. Since then, the battery will not charge at all, and it often freezes up if too much is happening on the screen (it will also work fine as long as the mouse is kept moving and not much is happening on the screen), especially screen savers. Nothing saved on it was lost, and we have even continued saving things on the HD. There is no obvious cosmetic damage. It boots just fine; no error messages or anything. The only problems are the freezing and the battery. I'm thinking mother board, but I'm not the expert.

Press and hold the <Fn> key while powering the system on. This will run the Dell Diagnostics. Another more intense diagnostic program is located on a Dell CD that you should have received with your laptop. Look for one that has “Diagnostics and utilities” listed under the “Contents”. You will have to boot from that CD disk. To do this, power on your laptop and tap the <F12> key to bring you to the “One time boot menu”. Insert the CD and then select CD/DVD drive and hit <Enter> key. Select the “Run the 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics”.

How do I turn the wireless on the Dell Inspirion 8200

there is no on-off switch for the wireless on the dell inspiron 8200 if I recall correctly. Make sure:

1. The mini-PCI slot (might actually have to open the little door on the back of the laptop) contains a wireless card

or

2. right click on "my computer", properties, hardware tab... device manager. See if there are any devices listed (yellow "!") that do not have drivers installed. Go to http://support.dell.com and download drivers for your wireless card and install them.

Dell Inspiron 8200 Battery

I assume that you have your charger plugged in as long as you use the laptop...

There are very minimal chances o the battery having been damaged, since the casing on the inspiron 8200 is quite sturdy.. i suggest you get the charge socket (the socket that leads to the main wall electricity outlet) from a qualified technician...

Hang

There is not a reset button that model. The only other way to force restart it would be to unplug the computer from the outlet. This is not a recommended method but, it can be used a last resort if your computer is hanging.

Downloading videos from Camcoder to laptop

What camcorder do you have? What OS are you running? What type of connectors does your camcorder use to connect to the laptop? USB, firewire, or S-Video, or something else? And why can't you find the drivers for it? Canon's web site offers support, including driver downloads for an incredible arrary of products. Their tech support group is very helpful, and they are pretty quick about replying to inquiries via e-mail?
