I don't know which type of batteries you used, but if you use AA batteries, you must select hight Amp types such az alchaline or NI-MH (rechargeable) with 2000mAhr real capacity or more... some chines batteries have 2800mAhr az writen on them but it's just a big lie. so be aware

Hi, Below are the tips to you : Digital camera use high current to make it works. Your 2 units battery 2500 mAh are normally worth for your camera. Your battery will get its full capacity after charged for 13-15 hours from designated charger ( I supposed you to use energizer charger). In your camera set your flasher to auto mode. This will save the power rather than use the flasher manually / all time. If after fully charged the battery and you still get the same performance. You may have wear down battery and need replacement. New battery required 24 hours charging before use at first time. Now install your new batteries. If you still get same problem, you've got problem with your camera internally.

My batteries drain so quickly when I put them in. I put in brand new ones and they last maybe 5 minutes. is there something i can do to change this?

hi, what battery are you using? most of the kodak digital camera using AA battery has a problem if you are not using KODAK BATTERY that specified in the battery cover. try to use duracel, energizer battery it will work after 5 to 10 shots of picture only. if you notice also the height of the said 2 battery are smaller compare to kodak batt.that's why the contact between to batt and pin inside of the camera are not good.
try to use kodak battery.

When I turn on the camera the screen is black but says 'Access' the lens then moves in and out unpredictably. Sometimes it tells me to turn off and on. This makes no difference.

Take the battery and memory card out of the camera for at least 5 minutes.Clean the gold contacts of the memory card by gentle rubbing with a clean soft cloth, holding the cloth between thumb and forefinger.Fully charge the battery. Then you SHOULD be able to start from setup again. If you cannot, you need a new battery.

1st thing to do is to read the manual. There is a comprehensive manual on the software dis that came with the camera in addition the the quick start booklet. Fow the camera to operate it needs batteries, and memory card installed. then switch on and pop away. But get to grips with the book it tells you all you need to know.
