Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook

Dell latitude d600

My D600 will turn on, but only the power light and caps, number locks will turn on, then it will turn off. I would do this several times and then it would start to boot. It will do the boot up but only go halfway and it will either freeze or turn off. I ran a diagnostic on it, read it in one of these concern pages. It gave me a FAILED TEST. it says."START DST SHORT TEST"
CODE: 1000 0146. what does this mean.

I was finally able to purchase a hard drive for my D600 and still having the same problem. Press the power button and all the lights will come on and then it turns off after 4 sec. no screen or fan coming on.

The “DST SHORT TEST” is a hard drive diagnostic test. Apparently your hard drive needs to be replaced. For more info on this type of error go to:

Greetings AROD718,

This error message is telling you that your hard-drive is nearing OR has already failed.

I would contact a buddy or go somewhere local to get Data recovery ASAP or if that is not important to you start shopping for a new hard-drive.

Hard drives are not very expensive and are simple to install, if you need further assistance please reply back!

Good luck,

Shawn

Latitude D600 PC Notebook: dell d600 three light on and of problam...

This is do to the jack were the power button board plugs into the motherboard, i see this alot on d600 and d610, the lights come on for about 3 sec then computer turns off..

this can be fixed by resoldering the plug to the motherboard but most will say you need a new mother board the leads are small and tight together..

Dell Latitude D610 powering on but not reaching BIOS.

I did a check and the D600 series I am pretty sure is not capable of running Windows 7. Re install the original OS or a Linux and go to the Windows 7 RC page and run the compatibility tool.
