I CLOSED THE PC AND WHEN I OPENED IT IT SAID PREPARING TO STANDBY THE SCREEN GOES BLANK AND THE PC GOES OFF. NOW WHEN I TURN IT ON ITS ON FOR 3TO4 SEC AND SHUTS OFF ALMOST LIKE ITS IN SLEEP MODE. BUT I CAN NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE TRIED TO UNPLUG AND TAKE OUT THE BATTERY. ALSO TOOK OUT THE BATTERY AND DISCONECCET THE POWER THEN HOLDING THE POWER BUTTON FOR 20-30 SEC LIKE THE IDIOT AT ACER SAID AFTER FIGHTING WITH THEM FOR MORE THEN 3 HOURS ON THE PHONE! STILL DOES NOT WORK. I DID NOTICE THAT IF YOU PRESS THE LITTLE BUTTON THAT SHUTS THE SCREEN OFF WHEN THE LID IS CLOSED IT (THE SCREEN) POPS ON FOR A SEC THEN GOES OUT AGAIN THAT IS HOW I SEEN THE MESSAGE "PREPARING TO STAND BY. PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME ACER SAID THEY COULD BUT FOR $39.95 A MINUTE. I THINK THAT IS REDUCILLIOUS. AND BUY THE WAY MY PC WAS BOUGHT 2 1/2 MONTHS AGO AT WALMART. (SHOULD STILL BE UNDER WARANTY BUT ACER WILL NOT FIX IT. PLEASE HELP ME
You'll have to check the warranty by using the serial #.. call Acer back and just ask to see if the warranty is still active.. don't ask for tech support.. they'll route you to india and you'll be stuck again.
As for the display going out... it's a little thing called the inverter. This is very common and not too difficult to fix.
I would however NOT replace it myself since it can put out one hell of a shock.
try this: https://secure2.tx.acer.com/FixMyAcer3/FixMyAcer.aspx
The inverter is located just under the plastic housing below the LCD panel. You can google: LCD INVERTER ASPIRE 5100.
best wishes.. this one isn't easy..
oh and your laptop is fine.. just the part of the LCD that has gone out unfortunately.
