This is a bad compressor, or overload-relay kit. Disconnect the power, remove the overload-relay from the compressor, and test the three compressor terminals for continuity . You should have continuity between each terminal, and you should not have continuity between any terminal and ground. If this tests ok, then replace the overload-relay kit. This is a common repair for me, and it is very rare for us to find a bad compressor, so you should be ok. If it is a bad compressor, and it is less than five years old, you have a five year sealed system warrantee, that will cover the repair cost. If it is over five years old, it is not worth repair. When you are done with the repair, make sure you install a 2000 joule or higher, surge protector to protect your refrigerator from this type of repair in the future. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

Maytag admiral side by side fan running on compressor but compressor not coming on 26 cu in model lsd26u15hew

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa.

I suspect by your description the fridge either has a faulty overload protector or the compressor itself is seized. Hence when the overload reset's the fan starts ( as it should when the compressor runs ) however the overload then trips and the fan stops while the compressor never starts, thus not cooling.

If you feel like you can trouble shoot further I`ll try to assist you or you may decide to call a professional appliance technician.

I don`t know the age of your fridge, but I should mention...

** Most of the Whirlpool fridges have 5 to 10 years sealed system warranty which would include the compressor but not the electrical starting devices i.e., the overload & relay. Check your owners manual, it is the ultimate authority on warranty no matter what anyone else tells you according to Whirlpool/Maytag/Amana.**

If you have a multi- meter you can check the compressor to see if the windings are ok.

**First, Unplug the fridge**

Remove the panel at the back down at the bottom. This should gain you access to the compressor.

On the side of the compressor will be the start relay/overload assembly such as this image...it may be enclosed in a black plastic cover as well.

2234770.jpg

Pull off the relay & overload and you'll see 3 pins in the form of a triangle...

ffd3e9e.jpg
With a meter measure between any 2 pins at one time, going between each pin with one remaining on a "common" pin.

You'll want 3 measurement's, similar to this example- 6ohms, 3ohms, and 9ohms.

On some meters you may simply get a reading of "0" ohms, as long as the needle moves off of "infinity" which would indicate an "open" winding=not good !

If following that, the readings are good, purchase a hard start kit. Part # HS410 also known as a 3in1 starter kit.

i.e.

775ec2d.jpg

The above package contains info and hardware on how to connect it.
NOTE : the HS410 ( 3 in 1 ) should be considered just a temporary "fix" as opposed to an actual "repair" in should not be relide on for long term reliability or safety, but rather the factory replacemnet part 8201786... i.e. macmarkus_95.jpg The above start device kit contains instructions on "how to" install kit. Hope that help`s move you forward if nothing else. If so please take a second and rate the reply and a testimony to your inquiry you received here at FixYa.

Thank you and good luck.

Bad overload relay

The compressor is usually fitted with a thermal overlload switch. It is usually secured to the compressor with some sort of spring mount so it maintains physical contact
The parts guy was probably talking about a hard start kit. They typically are a universal fit, and come with instructions. Be sure to check the electrical supply to the outlet for the fridge. Excessive voltage drop when it tries to start will cause such problems, and will eventually cause damage to the compressor.

Yes replace the start relay and overload. Part number 4387835 or 4387535 or 8201799. If that doesnt help it then you need a need compressor. Most of those factory relays have a capacitor on them. You need to pay attention to how they are wired up.

Skybox parts # 4387535 installation issues

You don't need to keep the round metal piece or the black wire that you take. The replacement part (flat one) is installed in its place. Put it in first, attach the green wire to it, and then put the two prong piece and install the wires (blue, white and brown) as you took them off the original part.

Whirlpool start device

k here we go, thinkkn we can get this to work for you.

the difference is going to be the white overloads in the bag9s). depending on size of compressor they will change, as far a s the relay thinkin ther is onl one in that bag'box/ (brown with 3 possible connections..
if this is the cas e ill asume that the old relay/overload was a onepiece white plastic with smaller connectors.. .you will need to cut off and resplice a new spade connector on the wires to fiut the new piece..
the extras are just that extras, its easier for them to stock and store one part number for a multitude of repairs( youll need only one)

Installing new over load relay

The line voltage goes to the overload and the neutral(and capacitor lines if it has one) goes to the relay.
