After talking to Porter Cable there is a tool to put the belt on or you can take it to a service center to have it put on. Tool cost is $213.00 . Best advice is buy something else.

I have a self propelled lawn mower and the the belt that propells the wheels is loose, do I need to replace it or is there a way to tighten the tension.

Cathy, there is a way to adjust belt tension on some models whether it is by the cable or a slotted bracket where the idler wheel is mounted, depends on make and model. If you have your manual check in it for belt adjustment. Could be stretched belt, stretched cable, worn/oil on pulley, seized tensioner, stretched/broken spring on tensioner, etc.

Gonna replace my broken drive belt but don't have a belt tensioner tool.Any poor boy solutions to this?

If you're talking about the little tool that you test the belt tension with, just use your finger to test the deflection of the belt. It should move up about a half inch or so when you push up with your finger with about 10 pounds of pressure. If it feels like you would adjust a chain final drive, it's a bit too loose.

Have to replace broken belt on a whirlpool awz 7813 tumble dryer and wondered what way the belt runs around tensioners

Double the belt and slide it between the two arms of the tension pulley. Then slip the belt over the drive motor pulley. The belt will be pushing against the tension pulley from underneath.

Battery light turned on. Lost power steering and AC.

You broke your serpatine belt. Needs replacing. It's a $50ish part and easy to do if you have a diagram under the hood of how the belt fits. But if it was "rattling" for a couple of weeks take it in for crying out loud. Let the mechanic look it over to make sure your lack of vechile care didn't destroy anything under the hood.....

Tension pully is loose making the belt rattle

It sounds like you have a broken serpentine belt tensioner. The tensioner should always be tight, it is spring loaded and you would have had to release the tension on it to have put the new belt on.Depending on what engine that is in yours, this could be an easy fix or a hard fix. The tensioner on a 2.2L is made into a large plate bracket that is attached to the front on the engine and several other items have to come off to replace it.The tensioner on the 3.1L v6 is smaller and has one bolt that holds it on.Either one is available at the local auto parts store.

Hope this helps
