It's tough to answer generic problems (much easier when we can taylor our answers according to your make and model, and sometimes even serial number) but I'll tell you the three most common reasons for that to happen, in descending order of likelyhood:

  • The electric solenoid coil on the water valve burnt out.
  • The float switch is gummed up and the dishwasher thinks it is still full of water. (look inside the tub for a can shaped plastic thing on the bottom)
  • The screen inside the inlet valve is plugged.

13 yr old dishwasher suddenly stopped working mid pre wash. Water left in bottom of machine. Power point is fine. Will not start at all now though. No lights turn on either. Is it fixable ?

If it is 13 years old, it has most likely reached its end of life--whatever the cause, something has malfunctioned. However, a service technician would probably be able to advise.

are you sure you have cleaned all the water outlets as when these get blocked and the water builds up the dishwash will go into a standby mode as a sefety precaution to stop your kitchen getting flooded if it was me i would take off all water outlet pipes and use boiling water and a good cleaning fluid it only takes a little blockage and then it will cut off so clean all pipes through properly and then try again is the water going into the dish washer before it cuts off or is their no water going into it either if you post back ill have a nother look for you hope this is some help i had same prob with mine but it was different brand of washer but after cleaning all pipes inlet and outlet it worked fine and is still working now use good limescale remover cause if you live in hard water area then this is probably you problem .......................................................

GE dishwasher stops after filling with water

Fantastic; we only use our dishwasher about 3 or 4 times a year, and this solution worked perfectly; thanks 1,000,000!!!
at the back of the motor...there should be a impeller blade...you should be able to reach in with a finger and pull it down..it may be resistant so find a way to hold it in place as you reach up to the next impeller blade and pull down further...finally it will all of a sudden free up....after which you plug it back in and start it up

How to reset the flood switch on a fisher & paykel

Hi - unfortunately my good friend it cannot be reset as one would like quite easily anyhow... water has found its way to the base of the drwaers and have activated the flooding switch - one could pull it apart to dry it - tip the water out from the base but if the leaks not repaired you will have the same problem later and will be on-going.

The start button flashing continuously and the filter area seems to be full of water but when I take it out it is perfectly clean. I have switched the machine on and off several times but each time the...

Please clarify what you mean by "..but when I take it out it is perfectly clean.." are you saying the water in the filter area is clean.

Turn the power off and take out all the water by hand using a small container. Turn the power back on.

If there is no change in the fault, it is likely the flood switch at the base of the dishwasher is triggering and shutting the machine down.

After dishwasher completes cycle, it starts again. It will keep going unless we stop it.

If the cycle does not stop that is usually because of a faulty water level sensor. The floater that controls the water level in your appliance. The faulty sensor cause the machine to think that there is still water inside, even when water has drained completely. Check if sensor is stuck or if switch is faulty. Some machine may use a membrane switch instead of a floater.

My Hotpoint dishwashers water stopped turning on. It has worked fine in the past but all of the sudden no water, just hot/dirty dishes.

check that your float valve is not stuck in the upper position. This will stop water from entering machine. If it is not stuck( a utensil may be stuck under the float valve) then the float valve relay switch may be the problem The float valve is in the bottom back usually under the lower rack of dishwasher

Re:dishwasher

Ginga, first of all it's still under warranty so I would call for service. Here's a few things to consider; first, I would switch back to the powdered detergent like Cascade. You want to make sure that the water entering the dishwasher is at least 120 to 150 degrees, anything less will cause the detergent not to dissolve. Check your loading and make sure nothing is blocking the spray arms from the soap dispenser. Make sure the spray arms do not have any cracks or splits. After the dishwasher fills, make sure that the water level is right at or just below the heating element, a short fill will cause this also. Catriver...post back.
