Try pressing the F8 key a few times just before you see the flashing cursor. This will give you a boot menu, select "start in safe mode".

If it boots up then, goto start menu->shutdown, when the shutdown menu appears, select turn off.
Leave machine off for 30 seconds, then try to switch on normally.

If it still won't boot, You will have to re-install from the restore disks.

DO NOT RE-INSTALL UNTIL YOU HAVE TRIED THE ABOVE, TRUST ME ;-)

Ok. so it sounds bad but its not. so do the following.
1 - make sure no cd is in the drive or usb is plugged in - restart
2- if it still is not working then the operating system has failed (boot) so you need to restore your laptop with the restore disks that came with it. if there is data on the drive you really really need then you need to do more work. if thats the case let me know and i can tell you how to do it - with out loads of $$ at a shop ( or if the data is sensitive etc)
Insert the restore disks and follow on screen instructions IF you dont have them you then need the following.
A copy of XP/Vista (full install) and a working pc so you can get the drivers and other application software.
The easist option is to insert a copy of xp/vista and repair the master boot record via the dos prompt. you may need help with this.
I can talk you through it.

Dont take it to a shop and pay loads of money - have a go yourself!!! its not that hard!

Hi Jim,

this seems like a no boot / no video kind off issue and mostly is coz of corruptions in softwares or drivers, try booting the computer in safe mode. if it does, then take a data backup. i would not recommend experimenting in this issue as it can crash the computer.
hence call 1-877-805-1027 for expert help.

Cursor stuck

Something might be corrupted, like OS or application. There are too many variables, but try booting into Safe Mode by pressing F8 during boot and using System Restore. There you can choose a date to roll back prior to problem. You may have to try a few dates. Plus you can uninstall any programs that may have caused the problem.

Acer aspire 5736Z wont boot on any recovery options

Try starting up in Safe Mode (Console mode) and type in
"SFC /Scannow"Once its done you should be able to do recovery options.
If not, boot from the windows 7 recovery/install CD and choose "Repair".
Go through the recovery process using the CD and it should all be fine!

be sure to remove all other external devices hooked to your pc. just leave ac adapter plugged in. then try if it will boot to safemode by pressing F8 upon seeing the Acer Logo. if it will boot, what you need is reinstall your OS. if it will still not boot then you need to replace hdd.

When you start your computer press f1 or f12, it will let you know on the screen, you want to press the one with set-up on it. Now find boot sequence and put cd rom as first boot sequence, that way it will boot off the disc and not the HDD (harddrive)

Aspire 9500 doesn't start - cursor and drive indicator blinks

Generally the bios setting will be set to check the primary Hard disk for the Operating system and then move to the CD/DVD drive . It looks like your system is not finding the hard disk. Thats why its moving on the CD drive and trying to read it.

Possible issues :

1) Hard Drive crash
Solution : Nothing much. You need to replace the hard drive and reinstall the OS.
2) Hard Drive connection issue.
Solution : Open the chasi and try to figure out if the hard disc is properly connected.
3) Corrupted OS or boot file
Solution : Try to repair the OS use the OS cd and run the repair option.
4) Bios setting to treat CD drive as the primary media.
Solution : Use the F10 option in the Bios to change the primary Media.

Rate the Solution accordingly...
