Question about Printers & Copiers
I need to print from a mac-based Filemaker file to a 4-part NCR tractor-fed form to a dot-matrix (AKA impact printer. I can only find Windows & UNIX-compatible .
Okidata works pretty good for 4 part forms. I've worked on dot matrix printers in the past and found that a lot of them jam with that big of a form and eventually burn the motor out a lot faster. Not a problem to handle on an Okidata.
I have yet to find a USB interface for one so that might be a challenge. Apple used to use a round serial interface. You might be able to find a workaround for that using a USB hub. I have a Belkin one at home that carries an Apple serial interface.
Another idea that could work is to use a parallel based print server with a eternet port on it. Then you can run it on a TCP/IP. The only time you need to use a browser is for administration setup on the print server by typing in the TCP/IP address into the browser.
Safari can work in place of Firefox. Make sure the printer server has Mac drivers for it.
