Problem with Pentium D 1gb ram desktop

Hello, I have a desktop pc, pentium D with 1gb of memory, 80gb hd. the problem is when the computer is restarted or has been on for a while and you want to turn it back on, it starts to beep and and it will not come on. If you do wait 25 to 30 minutes it will turn on normally with no problems at all. Can someone please help, Thanks in advance and God Bless.

Sounds like the cpu fan isn't doing its job quite right... (Do not touch anything inside while doing this)... Take the cover off a make sure the fan is indeed running.. Look for dust in the fin's of the cooling block underneath it... If it's dirty with dust it can reduce the cooling of the fan.. Turn your computer off and unplug. Get a can or two of compressed air from RadioShack and blow the dust and dirt from the fan and motherboard, plus all add in cards.... Compressed air in a can for RadioShack or other Vendors has no moisture in it..( VERY IMPORTANT )..
If that fails then the fan proably isn't running a the proper rpm's to cool the cpu... By a new cooling fan..They aren't that much... If that fail's then the motherboard is overheating to much, a sign that its on it's last leg's.......
Hope this helped.....

Is this going to be surfice?

Yup this used pc has a superior processor running at 2.8 Ghz, more ram, and a better video card. Also windows 7 is a 64 bit system and it runs better even on slower pcs because its more compatible for dual core processors. Enjoy your faster pc.

What is the most memory l can put in my dell optiplex gx 280 desktop ,l have 512 in it now

For mini-tower and Desktop
You should have 4 slots.
4GB is the max if you replace all the sticks.

For gx280 SFF (Small Form Factor)
You should have 2 slots.
2GB is the max if you replace all the sticks.

I just installed a 1gb ddr2 ram in my system and even though it detected the ram , the windows restarts all by itself and the message appears saying windows wasn't able to start properly and the usual text...

you may have incompatible ram. You can try running Memtest on the application that will test the PC ablility to read and write to all the channel and sectors of memory. Also did you try both slots?

Fan is sometimes noisey

Good day sir, hello, there are several option you may try, spray a little contact cleaner on your fan motor, just make sure its safe for electricity, second you either replace the fan, need to disassemble it, and reassemble the unit again, or check if the air ducks on desktop PC is not restricted. Hope this helps.

How much Ram am I using?

Unless you are running a 64-bit version of XP or Vista, Windows will not report the full 4GB. It's because of the way the program addresses and uses RAM. Here is a page that gives a little explanation. The bottom line is that if you want to get the full use of 4GB of RAM you need the 64-bit operating system.

Computer saying error loading operating system

You can configure your boot setup from your bios screen (for dell, either F11 or F12) then set up your optical drive as your 1st priority then, save settings. After that, you need to insert your windows XP cd in order for it to boot.

inform me of what happened after you have done this.
