Headphone Repair Hi, I seem to have a bit of a problem. Last Christmas I bought my 11 year old son a pair of Skullcandy lowriders, There was a accident and they fell of the table onto are wooden floor he tried to stop them landing by snatching at the cable and since then they haven't worked. The problem is, apart from them not working is that I've lost the receipt so the shop that I bought them won't help. I've opened them to see if the cables have been jerked free which they haven't, I've played with the cable to see if it is torn and I've plugged it into my Mac but there is still no sound, have you any tips which I could try? I'm thinking maybe if I solder a new cable on, if so should I use only a cable from Skullcandy or would any cable do? If I have to use a cable from Skullcandy because of the quality do you know where I could buy one, I live in Berlin, Germany. I would be thankful for any tips or help with this problem. It's easy,
Step1: rotate the earpeices so that either the cushions face up or down
Step2: fold one side inwards by bending the rotating elboe inwards, this elboe is located one inch above the top of the cushion
Step3: now do the same for the other side
Step4: as you fold/rotate the second earpeice, do so in a way that this earpeice lies underneath or ontop of the first folded earpeice

Note: as you do step 4, you will notice that the middle of the top band starts to bend to accomodate the motion of this folding process

Add. Note: the mic may be sticking out at an odd angle by now, rotate it towards the rest of the mass that is now your folded headphones...... now they are ready for your pocket

Buy a $4.00 1/8" jack replacement from Radio Shack - part # 274-0869, which has small screw connectors that don't need soldering.
Strip about 1" of the braided insulation at the old jack end, which will expose 4 very small wires: Blue, Green, Red, Copper.

Attach the Green & Copper wires to the tallest pin on the replacement jack.

Attach the Red to the shortest pin, and the Blue to the medium pin.

Remember to slide the jack cover onto the headphone cord before attaching any wires!

This works great, I just did it.

Try messing with the plug a little. Otherwise the wires somewhere might be messed up. That happened to a pair of my earphones, some of the wires at the plug broke so I wasn't getting sound out of the left side.

Either it's not plugged in all the way or there is a short in the line somewhere. I would pop the ear cover off to look at the wiring, it could have come unsoldered.
