There are many devices you can get to add usb to an existing device....ext keyboard connection.pmc slot, com ports ,printer ports even usb ports to update usb 1 to usb2 (of course that ones no good for you)
these are all plug and play devices
you could also install one to pci (easy in desktop)

Have a Samsung desktop - how do I attach printer cable?

It really depends on the specific printer interface you have!

Newer printers can be attached to a Desktop or Notebook via the USB interface (small connector as for mouse).

Older printers, and 'commerciall' high speed printers, have a 'parallel' printer interface (large connector - LPT port) that will connect to a desktop (or higher end laptop) with a parallel (LPT) printer port. If you need a LPT connection, a USB to LPT converter can be used ... but a newer USB connected printer may be a cheaper alternative in this case!

Hope it helps let me know how you go.

Which port do I plug my deskjet printer into?

The back of your computer does not have a conventional paralled printer port. If your printer has a USB connection, then you will want to use either of the two USB ports, located directly under the LAN port. #6 in the illustration below.

If your printer uses a conventional parallel port connector , you will need an adapter like the one shown at the bottom of this post. You can get these at Amazon, Newegg and probably Best Buy, but I have not checked there.

Best wishes!

Where is the printer port on my acer aspire 7551-2961?I did not get an user guide and am a lost senior citizen trying to communicate with my grandchild.MCV

Most printers now use the USB port instead of the older parallel ports that has several input/out pins. Some printers (new-out-of-the-box) do not come with the USB cable, therefore purchase one for your printer if it requires a USB cable. The computer should have more than one USB ports to plug into.

Don't know where i plug in my printer

I think you are new with the PC or Printers, if not, I am sorry to underestimate you, not actually, Well, I was just trying make you concentrate, This printer is to be connected to the PC via USB port using USB cable, here's the pic representation : usb-printer.gif The Flat terminal is to be connected to the PC and the Smaller terminal is to be connected to the Printer. Don't worry, It fits with the corresponding ports. printer-usb-port.jpg USB port on the printer looks similar with the above shown image. 67411-usb.jpg You have to connect in a similar way as shown above to the PC.. Good luck...

Are the ports etc. labeled on the back of the hp a1430n media edition? I'm trying to connect an additional printer

The connectors have legends but not labels. You can download this setup poster from HP which shows you what the connectors are for. Any printer you connect will likely be a USB printer (about the only kind available today). You can connect those to one of the front panel USB ports and not have to bother getting behind the computer at all.

You shouldn't have too much trouble. Thanks for using Fixya!

I have a Dell A940 connected to my old Dell desktop, which I want to keep. How can I get it to print from my new laptop? I cannot find any USB ports on the printer to connect.

Specs state that it is USB - probably a "USB-B" connector. Anyway, how is it connected to your desktop? Surely you can take the USB lead from the printer out of the back of your desktop and plug it in your laptop? Am I missing something here? Specs don't say it is a "parallel" connector (unless it has both). If it has both (and you are using the parallel connection (big plug with many pins) on your desktop then there should be a USB-B socket on printer next to the big parallel socket.

Trying to connect from USB laptop to parallel printer

You can't have a double hook up to it,When the parallel port is used the usb port is disabled and when you use the usb port the parallel port is disable. This is done to prevent damage to the printer. You can network the laptop with the pc and print that way though

Wireless communication to printer from pc is lost

You may be having an issue with an usb hub try connecting it to another usb port. If this is a notebook and you are connecting it through a port replicator disconnecting the notebook from the replicator can cause you to loose connection to the printers.
