How Do I Connect a Wireless Access Point to a Wireless Router?
I want to connect my wireless access point to a hub.

- I have given the access point a static IP (192.168.1.5) and plugged it into the hub, However the wireless router or my wireless PC's can not see the access point. Can you help?

- I am using:
Netgear's WGR614 54Mbps Wireless Firewall Router This is plugged into my comcast cable modem and my Dell™ Wireless 4350 Small Network Access Point is plugged into my netgear powered hub. The router has an ip of 192.168.1.1 and th access point has an ip of 192.168.1.5.
It must be something in the configuration. How should both these devices be configured?

- Thr router and cable modem is in one room (in the front of the house), the access point and hub is located in another room (in the back of the house). Is there a way for the two to commicate?

Nov 03, 2008

- Thank you. One last question.
What would be the affect of making the acess point (connected to the hub) a repeater?

Nov 04, 2008

- Bare with me please.
What I am trying to do is: I need my two wireless laptops to coneect to both the internet (comcast modem and router) which is in a room in the front of the house and to my desktop and network stotage device (which are connected to a hub in another room in the back of the house. The access point is also connected to the hub.The desktop (on the hub in the back of the house) also needs to access the router for internet connection.
I was trying to use the access point on the hub to do the above. What do you suggest?
You have been very patient and I thank you and will give you the highest rating.

Connect the cable from accesss point to a switch or if you have lan slots in wireless router.Make sure that you have to give static ip to the acceess point.

- First give your wireless router ip 192.168.1.1
You have already given ip for access point 192.168.1.5 ok.
connect both wireless router and access point to a switch.
Done!

You can see both wireless router and acess point from your pc.
Which model access point and router you using?
You have to configure the wireless settings too in both.

- Both the router and access point should be connected to the netgear hub.
In your router the modem is connected to the WAN port and any one of the lan port should be connected to the netgear hub.

- You have to lay cat5 cable (network cable) for connecting both router and access point to the hub. There is no other way for making router and switch in a same network.

Can u say what u wanna really to do ,I can suggest the network.

- you are connecting your internet connection to the router.Router means it will act as a mediater between ur local network and inertnet.Access point is like expanding your network. For example you have a three storyed building for better signal strength you should have to put 3 access point ijn each floor.More over there are limitaions for connecting pc s to the access point.Better you should connect max 7 pcs to a access point.

- I am attaching one pic abt u r network.Just go through it. Give static ips for router desktop access point and storage. The lines which I have showed is network cable. You have lay a cable from u r router to the switch. next thing is abt configuring your router.Enable dhcp option in the router.Dhcp is nothing but a option for giving automatic ip address. You can specify the range inthe router. When the laptops u tried to connect it will show two wirless devices, one is u r wireless router and other is access point. You can see the signal strength in and connect to the one which giving good signals. Any thing more pls revert it me back.
