I have given the access point a static IP (192.168.1.5) and plugged it into the hub, However the wireless router or my wireless PC's can not see the access point. Can you help?

    I am using:

Netgear's WGR614 54Mbps Wireless Firewall Router This is plugged into my comcast cable modem and my Dell™ Wireless 4350 Small Network Access Point is plugged into my netgear powered hub. The router has an ip of 192.168.1.1 and th access point has an ip of 192.168.1.5.

It must be something in the configuration. How should both these devices be configured?

Thr router and cable modem is in one room (in the front of the house), the access point and hub is located in another room (in the back of the house). Is there a way for the two to commicate?

    Thank you. One last question.

What would be the affect of making the acess point (connected to the hub) a repeater?

    Bare with me please.

What I am trying to do is: I need my two wireless laptops to coneect to both the internet (comcast modem and router) which is in a room in the front of the house and to my desktop and network stotage device (which are connected to a hub in another room in the back of the house. The access point is also connected to the hub.The desktop (on the hub in the back of the house) also needs to access the router for internet connection.

I was trying to use the access point on the hub to do the above. What do you suggest?

You have been very patient and I thank you and will give you the highest rating.

First give your wireless router ip 192.168.1.1

You have already given ip for access point 192.168.1.5 ok.

connect both wireless router and access point to a switch.

    Done!

You can see both wireless router and acess point from your pc.

Which model access point and router you using?

You have to configure the wireless settings too in both.

Both the router and access point should be connected to the netgear hub.

In your router the modem is connected to the WAN port and any one of the lan port should be connected to the netgear hub.

You have to lay cat5 cable (network cable) for connecting both router and access point to the hub. There is no other way for making router and switch in a same network.

you are connecting your internet connection to the router.Router means it will act as a mediater between ur local network and inertnet.Access point is like expanding your network. For example you have a three storyed building for better signal strength you should have to put 3 access point ijn each floor.More over there are limitaions for connecting pc s to the access point.Better you should connect max 7 pcs to a access point.

I am attaching one pic abt u r network.Just go through it.
Give static ips for router desktop access point and storage. The lines which I have showed is network cable. You have lay a cable from u r router to the switch.
next thing is abt configuring your router.Enable dhcp option in the router.Dhcp is nothing but a option for giving automatic ip address. You can specify the range inthe router. When the laptops u tried to connect it will show two wirless devices, one is u r wireless router and other is access point. You can see the signal strength in and connect to the one which giving good signals.
Any thing more pls revert it me back.

How can I remove my neighbor from my network

Easiest thing to do, Change the password to your router. Once this is done, it will prevent your neighbor from any further access to your router and of course prevent internet access. Most all routers are simply a local web address for access. Example: 192.168.1.1 typed inside a browser address pane will take you inside the router. Check your router for setup procedures.

My LG smartphone won't connect to my Netis WF-2404 access point.

Are you able to search the connection in the available connection. If yes then do post what error message prompts when you try to connect it. Check the encryption settings of your router if they are compatibly with the smartphone. I suggest to chooses WPA/WPA2 and also make sure broadcasting mode is set to b/g/n mix mode.

I want to connect to a router.how do do it

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router'swireless settings configured ie SSID, WPA or WPA2 encryption key and also thewireless cards in all the laptops and or computers needs to be configured withthese router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers cancommunicate with your wireless router.

I am trying to install a Netgear router after my switch. I end up having no internet on some of the computers connected to the hub and none on the router. If I configure the router as a dhcp client...

You'll want to configure your router as a dhcp server. Connect the switch to your router's lan port. Connect the remaining devices to a port on the switch. Your wireless access point should have it's dhcp server disabled. You can only have one dhcp server per network. The wireless can get it's address from the router's dhcp and the wireless client devices will get their ip address from the router, as well. If your wireless access point is a router with a wan/broadband port and some switch ports you will want to make sure that you are connecting to your Asus switch via one of the switch ports.
Be sure that your client devices are configured to get their ip address via dhcp and you should be surfing the interweb in no time flat.

Cannot connect to internet via wireless hub to laptop

When you power up the wireless router and the LEDs are ON then the router appears to be OK and this also applies to the DSL or cable modem.
To check if the modem is configured to your ISP settings and connects to the Internet, connect the modem with a LAN cable to your laptop and check if you can connect to the Internet.
Next, the wireless router needs the wireless settings configured and then configure the wireless card in the laptop with these settings so it can communicate with the wireless router.
To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

WPA for linksys

I would guess you are entering something incorrect with your security. If the wireless adapter on your XBOX wants a WPA then the wireless it is picking up has security on it however, it may be incorrectly set using WEP or WPA radius. Here is what *I* would do. Log in to your wireless router and remove all security. Go back to your XBOX and look for the signal for your wireless network. Now try to connect. Wireless connections can be a pain to configure sometimes but start first with no security and work yourself up. IF you can't get it working with security, make up a goofy SSID with NO security but don't broadcast it then you can connect the manual way through your XBOX specifying the SSID (not broadcasted) and no security that should do it. (Just a side note for my XBOX I bought a cheap Belkin 4 port router made it an access point for my existing wireless network and hardwired my XBOX to it. Works fine.)

Help

First, FYI, I hope you mean Switch and not Hub and I am to assume your Router's LAN ports are all in use as to why you want or need the 5 port Switch and that you have Wireless Access Points or maybe your Router is a Wireless Router.
Next, you have to connect your 5 port Switch to your Router LAN port. Next you need a Wireless Access Point device to plug into your 5 port Switch. It would be helpfull that all your devices are of the same name brand also.
Now you have a Wireless network.

Thanks,
podum
