No sirius id, no presets, all cleared... activation didn't help

The unit turns on but receives no signal. The antenna indicator shows an "x" in bothe the car and at home. I also checked and saw that the Sirius ID number was a blank. What has happened?

Well spent an hour on the phone with sirius (2 calls). No help with that solution.

  • John Coleman Oct 31, 2008

The assistance was a bit light. Call sirius...
So I did, twice. Lots of time on the phone.
No help there. I was hoping for a more informed solution since I actually paid money.

  • John Coleman Oct 31, 2008

I've tried it in both the mobile and in my boom box. Separate antennas, same problem.

Antenna wouldn't have cleared the Sirius ID but certainly could prevent data coming in.

It does not report antenna not detected. I've seen that message in the past.

It does have the "x" in the lower left corner.

  • John Coleman Oct 31, 2008

0 for 2. I did note other posters who'd had the same problem. Didn't see any posted solutions though.

  • John Coleman Oct 31, 2008

I did go through the web site activation in addition to the phone activation.

This was not a new activation. I've been using this radio for a few years.

  • John Coleman Oct 31, 2008

Well that's the second call sirius suggestion.
    0 for 3

  • John Coleman Oct 31, 2008

as I previously mentioned, I've tried it with 2 separate antennas.
When you have the same problem listed from multiple people and you sell a solution,
one would expect you actually have a solution.
I've been an electronic engineer for 22 years now and done customer service and field service for quite a bit of it. I would never take somebody's money for the call this number approach.
I look forward to my refund in lieu of an actual solution.

  • John Coleman Oct 31, 2008

you guys don't have a legitimate solution.
I look forward to my refund.

Bummer, appears to be how they go out--several mentions of the same thing on the Sirius forums. Not great news for you, but if it's under warranty should be a quick fix, otherwise, most likely you're looking at a new one.

The Sirius Website and Activation.

There are two ways to activate your Sirius subscription. The first way is to call 1-888-539-SIRIUS(7474). A $15 activation fee applies for subscribing via phone. The second method of activation is by using the Sirius Website (www.sirius.com). I choose this style of activation and was very pleased to have my Sirius radio up and running in about 10-15 minutes. To activate, you tune the receiver to channel 184. This channel is the Sirius preview channel, and with give a signal even if you do not have a subscription. Tuning to channel 184 allows you to check for an antenna signal. In most areas to get signal, you simply point the antenna skyward. You will also need a major credit card and the ID/ESN number from the back of the receiver. The website walks you through the process and the whole thing is very painless. There is a $10 activation fee for subscribing via the website. The payment options are a monthly fee of $12.95 or a yearly subscription of $142.45 (You get one month free with the annual subscription). The website is also allows Sirius subscribers to listen to the music channels while they are online, if they have broadband service. The site is also full of Sirius news, information and upcoming events. Navigating around the website is simple and the pages load pretty fast even with my dialup internet service

I am very sorry that you have not received the answer that you are looking for. I hope that you will get the help needed for this problem. All of the solutions posted on this problem are all people who are trying to help you. I agree with you on the point of not taking somebody's money on an "call customer service" solution. I am not on this site to make money, I am here to help people with issues that i am familiar with within my expertise, so i don't want to speak for everybody else...but your few dollars that you have paid for a solution are not really a huge bank breaking deal for me I am just on here letting you know that i have had the same issue and what has worked for me and others in the past. I sincerely hope you get the answer you are looking for.

Sirius radio problems

I would do the following, hoping one of them works.

1) DISCONNECT the power to the radio and SiriusXM unit to "clear" it. Then reconnect and ask Sirius to resend signat.

2) Ask Sirius to UNSUBCRIBE that radio so it is deactivated. Then, have them reactivate and resend programing signal.

3) Be sure your car is outside under clear sky when Sirius sends the program signal.

4) It is possible the antenna cable to your unit is loose at the connections and/or damaged. A weaker signal may get your stations, but may prevent the additional Navigational signals. Have the antenna checked thoroughly and tested. If car is still under warranty, this should be a covered diagnostic/repair.

5) Finally, be sure the correct Radio Serial Number is being activated. If your radio works, that is one service. But maybe they are putting a wrong number by some chance into the system to fix this one? For example, you have TWO radios in TWO cars. Are they sending the turn on signal to the WRONG radio? Not as farfetched as you might think.

Good luck!

How do I display the radio ID number, so that I can listen to Satellite radio?

Verify if the radio is "Satellite ready" or if it comes with the remote tuner unit. I believe you have to buy a separate tuner add-on and antenna in order to activate the satellite circuitry - THEN it will show you a radio ID. I think ONLY the Alpine comes with the tuner. I would call Crutchfield and they can tell you what all you need with that tuner to make it work with the satellite radio.

If it is reading "ACQUIRING SIGNAL" WHAT CAN THIS MEAN??

This typicall represents a failed antenna with either a loose connection or failed wire to the antenna. The "Acquiring Signal" indicates the receiver is trying to locate and decipher a signal from a sattelite. THe antenna is your first diagnostic. After that the receiver is the culprit. When your receiver is Activated or Authorized it is given a "key" to decipher the sattelite signals If it loses the "key" you can try and have Sirius reinitialize by contacting support. If they cannot send the signal and get the proper "Key" loaded its a defect in the receiver functionality.

Pioneer AVIC 700 sirius satellite radio stopped working, stuck on

My AVIC-F900BT was stuck on one channel and wouldn't change. There was no sound. Radio head detected Satelitte system, but no buttons worked. Found on the internet a solution that worked for me. I disconnnect the battery terminals for 5 minutes and then connected them. When the system rebooted, the Sirius radio worked fine. I'm posting this hopeing it will help someone.

Sirius Receiver goes silent and displays Acquiring Signal.

I have a 3 year old Sportster 2 replay unit that worked perfect until 1 month ago. I posted my problem on this website a day before you did with this same problem. I googled to no end and even spoke to Sirius who wasn't willing to replace my unit at no charge since it was out of warranty. I found an unusual solution on the internet that worked for me. I place my receiver in the freezer for at least 20 minutes (this was recommended by a guy somewhere on the internet with the same problem). I have actually left it in freezer overnight too. This has solved my problem. It is the craziest thing but I thought I would try it before I resorted to replacing all my accessories and receiver since Sirius was less than cooperative with the issue. Anyway, hope this helps.

Lost antennae reception

either the antenna is broken, or your service was cancelled. Contact SIRIUS for your account info. Did you pay to have the new radio turned on? I believe they have a $75.00 "activation fee".

STATIC/INTERFERENCE

&R=11812445&C=17577363&K=NBy0rr?h=2mv3s7&r=11812445 Your SIRIUS radio contains an FM transmitter that allows it to operate wirelessly through your car FM radio. We have determined that the output of this transmitter exceeds the limits established by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). As a result, the unit may interfere with the performance of radios operating in areas adjacent to your radio. There are no health or safety concerns associated with this issue.
  • If you listen to your SIRIUS radio wirelessly through your vehicle's FM radio, then please review the solutions listed below and select the one that works best for you. SIRIUS will provide you the best solution at no cost.
  • If you use your SIRIUS radio only when docked in a boombox, or directly connected to your car radio or home stereo using audio cables or a cassette tape adapter, then no interference can occur and no further action is required, provided you have turned off your FM transmitter. To turn off the FM transmitter, first press the MENU button. Use the channel up/down buttons to highlight “FM Transmitter” and push the SELECT button. Use the channel up/down buttons to highlight the "FM On/Off" menu item and then press the SELECT button. Use the up/down buttons to highlight "FM Off" and press the SELECT button. To exit the "FM On/Off" menu, press the MENU button. Use the same procedure to turn off the FM transmitter if you use Solution 1 or Solution 2 below..
Solution 1 - Direct Wired Audio Connection: If your vehicle radio has a “LINE IN” or “AUX IN” jack, you can use a stereo cable to connect directly to your SIRIUS radio. This solution is the easiest to install and provides the best audio performance. Many newer vehicles provide the required audio input jack. It will normally be found on or near the front faceplate of your vehicle’s radio.

fcc_a_1.jpg

Solution 2 - Cassette Tape Adapter
: If your vehicle has a cassette tape player, you can use a cassette adapter that allows you to play your SIRIUS radio through the cassette portion of your vehicle radio. The adapter slips into your vehicle radio as easily as a cassette tape and provides better performance than a wireless connection. fcc_a_2.jpg

Solution 3 - FM Extender Cable Kit: An FM extender cable will provide a special transmitter antenna that allows you to obtain the best audio performance through your vehicle’s FM radio. This solution is easy to self-install, but does require that an easy-to-hide wire be run in your vehicle so the transmitter antenna can be placed in close proximity to your vehicle’s radio antenna. Using this FM Extender Cable Kit, you will continue to use your SIRIUS radio exactly the same way as you do currently. fcc_a_3.jpg

Solution 4 - FM Direct Adapter with Professional Installation: An FM Direct Adapter provides a wired connection between your SIRIUS radio and your vehicle’s radio. You will continue to listen to your SIRIUS radio through the FM tuner of your car radio, but the FM Direct Adapter eliminates the outside static and interference you sometimes experience when using a wireless FM connection. This solution usually requires professional installation. We will provide a certificate redeemable for installation at an installation center in your area.

Please go to www.sirius.com/optimize and select the solution that works best for you. If you have any questions, please call 1-(877) 635-5130. Detailed instructions will be included with your solution.
You will improve the performance of your SIRIUS radio and reduce the potential for interfering with adjacent radios if you properly tune your FM transmitter. Please see the FM Transmitter Set-Up Tips below for more information.
We are sorry for this inconvenience. We are confident these solutions will allow you to continue to enjoy the great music, news, sports and entertainment that only SIRIUS Satellite Radio can offer with no impact on your radio’s performance.
Sincerely,

SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO

FM Transmitter Set-Up Tips

To tune your FM transmitter turn off your SIRIUS radio and tune through the FM channels on your vehicle’s radio to locate an FM channel (except 87.7/87.9) that is not broadcasting in your area. If you use an FM channel that is being used by a local broadcaster, it will interfere with the performance of your SIRIUS radio. Once you have located an FM channel that is not being used for broadcasting in your area, save it as a preset on your vehicle radio. This will become your SIRIUS preset. If you’re not sure which FM channels are not being used in your home or travel cities, you can go to www.sirius.com/fmchannel and search for an FM channel based on zip code.
Turn on your SIRIUS radio. In the SETTINGS or MENU on your SIRIUS radio, locate the “FM Frequency” adjustments. Set the channel number on your SIRIUS radio to match the SIRIUS preset on your vehicle radio. Refer to your user guide for detailed instructions on how to do this. The FM transmitter in your SIRIUS radio is automatically set to FM channel 88.1. This may not be the best channel in your area.
