Tv almost 4 yrs old. This morning it wouldn't turn on..just popped and little red light on front panel blinky, blinky at me... Called sony guy found out blinky was code..it was blinking 6 times. He had me unplug for an hour then plug back in. Then it was blinking 7 times. He could't tell me what the blinky blinkys meant so I know you will be able to and suggest what I can or can't do.

Don't try to lift the damn thing by yourself, unless you like slipped discs and hernias.

It means that the horizontal sweep dirived power supply did not start up. The standby supply started and then when the horizontal started to but was shut down because of a short, the main supply also shut down, Thats what the 5 blinks compared to the 6 blinks mean. Now what can yoiu do. It all depends on how much you know about solid state serviceing. iof you know how to unsolder and resolder, read a schematic diagram, know how to use a scope and /or multimeter, know how to test transistors , capacitors and resistors, then maybe you can troubleshoot this puppy. If you answered just a maybe to any of the above, call in a pro to assist you as these sets have no user serviceable parts inside them. Also lots o ,lots o high voltage inside of them, even when they are unplugged. Now if you do know anything about electronics, first thing I would do would be to check the horizontal output trasistor along with the flyback transformer.
