In compaq laptop in that all the key r working proper but only MNLK is not working. insted of 0123 is coming plz help me

It is possible that the shift key is shorted or there is fault on the keyboard track. If you look closer to the keypad button there is a shift key for using the M or shift to using 0. So this section could have faulted. It is ideal to remove the keyboard, remove all screws on the back board and remove and clean the pads. If not the keyboard is faulty in the tracks or the circuit.

Shift key problem

the contact underneath the shift key itself is starting to go bad. Its a common issue with sony laptops, the keys can wear out pretty quickly. You'll have to get another keyboard.

Need to find replacement p keyboard cap for my gateway laptop

You will probably not be able to purchase a key but try calling the manufacturer and they may be able to send you one for free.

However a better solution:

use a small screwdriver or knife to prise off another similar sized key on your keyboard (most user never use the windows key,
bottom left between <CTRL> and <ALT>)
Place the screwdriver or knife tip under the bottom edge of the key and gently lever it upwards until it clips off.

Now put this key over the 'P' position and gently press down, it should clip on successfully

Shift key not working

You have 2 Shift keys on the keyboard. If the other shift key is working then the shift key that is not working is defective. You should consider replacing the keyboard on your laptop. There is no setting on Windows that can disable the shift key.

**Note : If both Shift keys are not working, Try to check if sticky keys feature on windows is on. Sticky keys should be disabled. To disable sticky keys, Click on start and Go into control panel > Accessibility Options, and under keyboard there is sticky keys. Remove the tick and click apply and OK.

**If "Use Sticky Keys" is unchecked, that means sticky keys is disabled.

Keyboard key issue in laptop

The metal bar needs to be clipped on to the plastic shift key. Look under the plastic shift key and you can see recess where the metal bar fits. Place the shift key over these recess and push down until it clicks into place.

FN key

(FuNction key) A keyboard key that works like a shift key to activate the second function on a dual-purpose key, typically found on laptops to reduce keyboard size. It is different than the function keys F1, F2, etc. It is also a real nuisance when the PageUp and PageDn keys are placed on the Up and Down Arrow keys and have to be activated by pressing the Fn key.

Hope this helps you,
George

Dell Laptop - Keyboard "Fn" is causing problems!

I think it is not the Fn key but the NumLock that is activated. Look for the key labeled NumLk , this is the number lock. Also check if the light on the notbook with a number (usually number 1) is on. If it is on, yo must deactivate the numlock by pressing it again. It works in toggle mode. Sometimes the numlock is activated together with the shift key, sometimes with the function key.
