APPLICATION HPSU -0004 MISSING FROM LIBRARY

Basically, the HPSU-0004 Error states that one or more DLLs (libraries) needed for the Update utility to run are missing.

The libraries were deleted, or pointers to irrelevant libraries were left in the Registry.

2 Possible Solutions:

The EASY solution:

1. Remove all of your HP (Hewlett Packard) Printer software from your computer and do a fresh install from the CD that came with your printer.

The Hard Solution (only do this if the easy one doesn't work):

1. Download a current version of the FULL drivers+applications (single HUGE file) for your printer;

2. Start running the file downloaded in the previous step, until it offers the option to install the software (other options might be there, such as "read the Readme file");

3. Do NOT click on "Install", but rather simply exit the Installer (cancel, exit, ...) - the reason for step 2. above was to just have the downloaded file extract in an orderly manner all the files that it (and YOU) would use for its (and YOUR) further processings;

4. Locate on on your drive the installation folder created in step 2., and -- under it - the folder "setup\hpupdate" (the whole thing should be located somewhere under the TMP or TEMP folder - just run a Search/Find for it, using your search engine of choice);

5. IF (and only if) you have located the HPUPDATE folder in the previous step (you will, normally), continue:

6. Under Windows Control Panel, start the "Add/Remove Programs" applet, and -- in the list of applications it presents -- look for "HP Update";

7. Remove the HP Update application as you would any other application (the uninstall process might end with some errors for files not found - this is normal in this case, as we already know that some files are either missing, or mistakenly pointed at, as stated earlier in this text);

8. Now go to the setup\hpupdate folder located in step 5. above, and run (double-click on) the only *.msi fie found within it (this will reinstall the version downloaded of the HP Update utility);

9. When Installation (previous step) is completed, run the newly installed HP-Update utility, to find further updates both for itself (you might not have had the most recent version) and for any other HP application that might reside on your drives.

10. This completes the process

Good Luck!

The above link refers to the product support page for your desktop pc at Hp.com

There are many different ways to obtain the drivers for your pc.

1.
hpweb_1-2_minus.gif Using HP Update Follow these steps to open HP Update and check for software and driver downloads:
  1. Click Start , All Programs , HP , and then click HP Update .
  2. In the Welcome to HP Update window, click Next . HP Update now checks for the latest updates from the Web.
  3. If new updates are available, make sure the check box next to each update is selected and click Next to begin downloading and installing the updates. If no updates are available, click Finish . See the HP support document Using and Troubleshooting HP Update for details on using and configuring the HP Software Update tool.

Getting updates from the maker of the software or hardware Many companies provide free software updates for their software products. HP and Compaq computers come with a wide variety of hardware components and software titles provided by HP partners. If you are having an issue with a software title or hardware device driver and you cannot find an update from HP, try looking at the product manufacturer's Web site.
CAUTION: Only install BIOS updates from HP! Do not install BIOS updates from the Motherboard manufacturer's Web site! Doing so might prevent the computer from accepting an HP system recovery. hpweb_1-2_plus.gif Product manufacturer's Web sites Video tips for finding drivers To watch a video on how you can find software and drivers, see Video: Five Ways to Find Software and Drivers (in English). You need to download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP or Vista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Use this link to download the drivers: -

HP Updates fail to install

I would find a friends computer, download them(download only, not install) to his computer, use a flash drive to copy them and put them on your desktop computer, then install.
Unless they're for hardware like your printer iI wouldnt worry to much about them. Most HP software never gets used.
Do keep up on your Windows updates, as well as your antivirus software.

When i want to update an update that needs to be updated

Do you know what the update is that fails? I guess the easiest way to see it is instead of using auto update, use Custom Update and see what needs to be installed.

I have also seen were some people have suggested this is caused by spy-ware on your system. Perhaps a in-depth scan would eliminate that possibility.
Personally I would not worry much about HP updates. The only time I would think of doing such updates is if I were having a problem with my system and an update directly addressed the issue. In fact I would go as far as to remove the HP updater.

Now Windows Updates are a different matter and should be done as they often cover security issues.

The HP Update program (bloatware, in my opinion) doesn't work with Vista very well, even though the system would have been bought with Vista pre-installed.Vista.

If you want to get rid of the HP Updates program, go to the Start menu and into the 'Control Panel'. Select "Programs & Features". The program is called 'HP Update'. You can Uninstall that program there if you like. You can manually check for updated hardware drivers by going to the HP site's Drivers and Downloads area, and entering your Desktop Model Number.

The HP Updates program also seems to have problems with various software/hardware firewalls, particularly when running Windows Vista, preventing it to search for and download optional driver updates for your HP computer.

HP says that hpsudelpacks.exe is a virus which affects mostly the automatic downloading of hp updates. go to their website and download the realtek audio driver manually to see if you can actually download updates to begin with. You should update any spyware or virus program if you have to and then shut down my computer and restart in safe mode. When in safe mode , run windows defender found here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx , then run avg virus program found here http://free.avg.com/download?prd=afe , then restart your computer, click on hp update in my start button area, and you should able to download another update.
