Question about Toshiba PC Laptops

1 Answer

Black screen Laptop (Toshiba Satellite Series, don't remember the model #) was working fine. I closed the lid and next time I opened it up, the screen was black with white underscore blinking in the top left corner. Rebooting didn't help. What might be the problem and is there any way to fix it? Thank you in advance

The next time you reboot keep on tapping the f8 key. it should bring you to the advanced options menu. from there select the option for last known good configuration. select it. if this doesnt remedy the issue you may have to reinstall windows.

Toshiba satellite a300 laptop display problem screen black, no display at all.

You laptop either needs a new Cable from the Motherboard to the Screen, a new power inverter, or a new screen. Most commonly, I have seen the video cable get smashed between the hinges/plastic case, and this causes the wires to break apart, leading to a black screen.

Here is the power inverter for your laptop: http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Satellite,A300,PSAG0U-0CF035,Laptop,Inverters.aspx

Here is the video cable for your laptop: http://www.notebooksolutions.ca/zc/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3392&zenid=7903c7a1a62c4c2cbfef6ea30865373c

Here is the LCD screen for your laptop: http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Satellite,A300,PSAG0U-0CF035,Laptop,LCDs-Displays.aspx

If the display comes back, slightly, when you lift the display lid up and down, this would be a sign that your cable is bad. If you get no reaction from opening and closing the lid, you may have a bad inverter or screen. It is most commonly the inverter or the cable.

If you have a spare monitor, you could plug it into the VGA connector on your Laptop as a temporary solution. If after plugging the monitor in, you get no display, try pressing Fn + F5.

Your system is consuming much power.

Go to Control Panel, Power Options.

Click "Advanced Power Settings" for your current power plan.

Under the section "What happens when I close the lid", choose "Do nothing" for both "Battery" and "Plugged-in".

Click "Apply" and "Ok".

Now, close the lid of your laptop and open it, it would restore but next time don't overload your system power.

This is common with Dell and Toshiba.

How do I replace the keyboard?

next to the F1 key and the windows key (2nd upper key and second to last key) are two screws, usually under some covering. unscrew and lift top edge of the keyboard towards the trackpad to lay face down. Undo the wire ribbon by lifting the grey or brown tabs and remove ribbon and keyboard. Then install the new keyboard by inserting the ribbon on the place. Lock down with the tabs and put the plastic prongs (close to the space bar) into the laptop body first, and then close keyboard onto the final position. screw back in and thats all. nboulikas@gmail.com for any additional questions.

Your power management in Windows is corrupted. I would do a system restore to an earlier date.
1.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
2.
On the Welcome screen, click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next.
3.
On the Select a Restore Point page, select the date from the calendar that shows the point you'd like to restore to, as shown in Figure 2, and then click Next.

4.
On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, verify that the correct restore point is chosen, and then close any open programs.
5.
Click Next if you are ready to proceed or click Back to change the restore point.
6.
The computer will shut down automatically and reboot. On reboot, you'll see the Restoration Complete page, and then click OK.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Pushing on the lid-close switch on these things will only take you so far. The screen's inverter board needs to be replaced. This is a common problem with this series laptops.
