Question about Compaq Presario R3000Z Notebook

3 Answers

When my computer boots up, my screen is still black!

It's like my screen is dim! I can barely see my screen pop up the windows welcome sign, but I can't see my desktop icons. It's like I need to replace a light bulb or something. Any ideas on what's the problem?

There's a chance that it could be your brightness & contrast settings. (Which someone stated earlier) If not, there's a good chance it's the inverter board inside the PC. It can be replaced, although I don't know what the cost is because I've never had to do it. I'm taking classes for the CompTIA A+ certification (Industry standard certification) and the inverter boards were covered in this class. Hope I helped you out and good luck with it.

Your screen is dim because you need to replace your battery. But first make sure you are plugged in AC wise. Compaq notebooks will not run properly without a battery pack. When your battery needs to be replaced, the battery will not hold a charge. You also might try unplugging the AC power, wait a minute, then replug the power cord. Restart the computer and immediately push the shift key and the F-10 key. Sometimes this helps light your screen. But you should still replace that battery if it's not holding a charge. It will dog you until you do it. P.

Do check the LCD brightness settings..its usually on the function keys..you press the function key and the other key at the same time there should be a icon on the keys..some laptops have the arrow buttons(up,down or right and left) for controlling brightness...hope it helps!

Boots fine but screen but monitor flickers then goes black. Is it the monitor or something else?

What operating system are you usign?
Presuming it's Windows, wWhen you say "boots fine" you mean you actually reach the desktop, the "welcome" screen or the Windows startup logo?
By your description somehow I guess you have a startup problem but need some feedback about your computers status

Have you updated a Graphic driver? Does it Dim on battery and AC? Look at power settings. Control Panel, Power. You could Rool-Back the graphic driver to see if that changes the problem. A Gateway mt6841 has Windows XP OS, right?

My g60 -235dx laptop on startup error message say communication problem with I/O deveice, HD, flash drave , CD-ROM

G60-235dx. (2011 model, is my guess)
ok tell the full story please.
    PC boots sequentially.
progress in that matters. so it seem windows unstated runs?
    XP?
so you power on and what happens ?,
errors before windows logs in or after.?

my guess #1 is the main laptop battery is bad, remove it.
this pC runs on AC power pack endlessly, (AC power good)
dim screens. can be bad CCFL lamps or low power in the PC.
so again take out the battery
what flash drive, remove that, test the pC with no usb devices at all plugged in.

just an A.C power pack and no main big battery.
this PC has old CCFL lamp tubes that all go dim, fast.
turn yellow then dim the flicker and then DIE for ever.
all do. some in 2 years time never turned off. they do.

it the screen goes black use a flashlight if data is good on the screen the back lamp is croaking. (***** of CCFL tubes)
there are many cause of black screens, I can list 30. (will not)
    but dim screens are only
1; main battery bad and shorted.
2: AC power pack near dead. (weak happens)
3: shorts in the main board, modules.overloading power buses.
4: CCFL dim as every one this old does, all do.
    see flash light test.

    Screen dim HP pavilion dv1000

The lid actuator switch may not be working correctly. It's a small switch above the keyboard and led's on either the right or left side. Try pressing it 2 or 3 times to see if the display starts working correctly again. If so, it will need to be replaced.

If that doesn't work, you can also turn it on with the ac adapter plugged in. After it boots, press the power button and hold it in until it shuts off and then turn it on again and see if the display has returned to normal.

If neither of these options work, your laptop may need to have the backlight replaced.

    Black screen after startup

You could have a faulty inverter or a CCFL lamp, To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Acer Aspire 5610. LCD very dim all of a sudden.

That sounds just like an inverter problems. There is a slim chance the bulb could be a problem, but I would replace the inverter. It is not too hard to do, no soldering involved.

You have to remove the screw covers on the frame of the LCD frame, and then carefully pop off the frame. The inverter should be on the bottom center of the screen.

Be careful, there is a high voltage in that little baby. Just get the full numbers, and do a search on the internet and buy yourself a new inverter to replace the old one.

    Dim screen

If its very dark and you can barely see anything its probably a bad back-light. I'd suggest to take it to your local Best Buy. And yes, they can look up PSP#'s with your credit card, but even easier by telephone number.

Sounds like you may have a bug, you could try re-ionstalling everything fresh, it may need a driver update. Check the funtcion keys. Sometimes you can turn up the screen contrast by holding the function key and hiiting the function key that looks like a white and black sun, Black is for darkewer, white is for brighter.

Also, ost laptops when on battery power, will auto dim to save battery power.
