BELLS RED FLAGS ALARMS WHISTLES WARNINGS
a site that requires you shut down protection,
has some intent of using that lack of protection.
usually its something nasty

online gaming should not require more than the opening of the NAT in the router to the address of the game host.
check the settings of the router many have prewritten rules for the major game hosts, that just need to have the checkbox marked.
I have 3 sons with different online gaming and have not had to disable the firewall

using the routers built in menu, cant tell you the address beyound 192.168.0.* because no details on router model, you can enable gaming mode, and leave the firewall intact.
goto the manufacturer(router) webpage and check the FAQ for your router

Just got wireless and my first system update for ps3 wont work,it keeps showing 80710723.kind regards jack

1st When you test your connection when it shows you NAT Type, make sure its Type 2 any other will have certain conflicts with PSN and online gaming. If its not Type 2 I recommend doing a factory reset on your modem/router.

2nd If you have the recources try hooking it up wired and see if you have the same problem.

3rd Try downloading the update via your PC to usb flash drive and then plugging the flash drive into one of the usb ports on your PS3.

Good Luck!

Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is not able to go online through the modem then you will need to call ISP first.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem
then you need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Trying to connect a wired network wirelessly to a router

No. You'll need to run a "cross-over" Ethernet cable from one of the "LAN" ports on the "downstairs" router, connecting to the "WAN" port on another router that you will need to buy, and place "upstairs", and connect the 4 devices to the 4 "LAN" ports.

Or, run a long "straight-through" Ethernet cable from your DSL-modem (or cable-modem) that is "downstairs", and move your wireless router "upstairs", and connect the 4 devices to the router's "LAN" ports.
Your laptop "downstairs" should still be able to connect (wirelessly) to the wireless-router that is "upstairs".

My internet keeps disconnecting

It sounds like the wire from your house to the isp switch is faulty you should probably call them down to fix. Or it could just be the modem are you using the same modem for both computers? If so then that's probably the problem.
