DO NOT try to take the PSP appart on your own.... You're right, you will end up doing more damage than good. Both the front and back of your PSP are 'welded' toghether. It's a cheap fix if you take it to Game Stop or possibly Best Buy.

Won't unlock

If it isn't responding to touch there is probably an issue with the screen.
If it responds to the power button when you press it (on the screen not on the top) then it is likely a software glitch. You'll be reflashing. Do not mess with the screen as it is not the problem.
First things first. Shut it off and restart it. If you cant shut it off open the back and pull the battery cable out. Leave it for a few minutes and plug it back in retry then move on the to following..
If you have important stuff you don't want to lose on it that would be lost if you flashed it: turn it off. Unscrew the casing and check the plug for the screen to make sure its plugged in. Push all plugs you see and ribbons in and reattatch if they are out.
If you can flash first: do it then follow the previous instructions after you try again.
If neither respond it seems the resistive response to the touch screen failed and you should probably try to get a new one under warranty or as a manufacturer defect. Do not tell them you opened the back. If they ask you to do that for troubleshooting that's cool but don't say you opened it because it may cause them to think you broke something.
Being that it is an old product that they are discontinuing, being nice and talking them about it may go a long way. Show your willingness to try to fix or work on the issue and sometimes with a little luck you get pushed up to someone with the power to actually help you out. You'll likely pay for shipping but you could very well end up with a brand new one.
Good luck

After pressing the on/off button, no info appears on the monitor. The button itself does not change color to blue. Main and processor fans are spinning.

With no beeping or anything, it's time to start testing!
Open the case and remove any cards (except video, unless you have onboard video then remove the 2nd video card) Unplug all devices like DVD Drives from the motherboard. Unplug everything from the back of the computer except power, video, and keyboard.
Try to power it on. If there is a difference, then start putting one thing back at a time and testing. If there is no difference, try removing all but 1 sticks of RAM, try powering on. If no change, try the other stick of RAM.
If no change, it may be worth trying a different power supply if you have one.... Or at this point, with no change, you may need to take it in to somewhere who has spare parts and can continue testing.

I know this isn't an exact answer, but there could be a number of things wrong here. If this advice helps at all, please give me a positive rating. Thank you.

My so31 ligths up but does not respond to remote

Check that the antenna isn't rubbing against the chassis as mine got rubbed thru and I think shorted the sensor. After trying playing with the left switch on the remote about 20-30 times it synced again with my chopper and I touched the open antenna wire purposely against the chasis and it would lose signal, then I removed it and it worked again. Tried that a few times so I think it's rubbing against something causing it to short out.
